Does the fact Konak has been given shirt number 5 mean any (central) defensive addition is now unlikely, do we think?

I wouldn't read too much into squad number allocations these days. Hopefully no bearing on whether we bring in another centre half.

I don't think Cam takes much notice of the forum and i certainly don't think he will overthink one game in the cup against MK Dons, as won't i or the rest of the fanbase. You are probably more upset at my comment than Cameron is.
Hmmm, maybe not the forum but he does on social media, I know that for a fact, but nothing you said was wrong.

Add McNair, McDonnell, Jin-Woo to what we already have and it’ll be the best window since…I can’t even answer that.

……. Probably since when we sealed Lankshear close to the summer deadline and everyone was cock-a-hoop on here saying exactly the same - what a window and how much improved the squad was !!!! 🤣🤣…… On paper, I agree, it would look very good but we thought the likes of Romeny and Dembele and Krastev were quality signings at the the time and they’ve flopped. Agree with the general sentiment though.

Remember how much praise we got for the summer 24 window too? I'm excited for the business we're doing – but of course you can only really judge these things months down the line

Hi guys

Hope your all well, I'm amber and blue a stags run tictok and X space

Just thought I'd come on here and tell you what you are getting with Jamie McDonnell

A ball holding player, calm on the ball and doesn't rush passes

He's an old school player that loves a tackle, we played Sheffield utd on Sunday, he put in some crunching tackles in and Sheffield utd didn't like it

Without a doubt he'll be a cracking championship player he's been head and shoulders our best player this season

If you comparing him to similar players he's like a young Ryan Yates

1.5 mill is a steal may not seem it now it will

Good luck for the rest of the season

A very jealous stags fan
Many thanks, and good luck for the rest of the season. Yellow and Blue rules!!!

Yeah, I think the truth is new signings create excitement at any time. I mean I’m excited about Woo coming to us but I haven’t got a clue if he’s any good, new names and new faces give that buzz but the reality is that a bad half and being subbed off and this forum will be questioning any signing we make.

Its sad that the same people want to continually talk down every player, even those that they've never seen play.

Newsflash - it's going to be several years before we have a squad of 25+ experienced and established Championship players. Until then we will have to take a gamble, and I'd much rather we do that with highly rated 20 year olds than players coming to the ends of their careers.

I'll openly admit that I don't watch a huge amount of football away from our games, and struggle to remember every aspect of each opposition team. So I know little about Jamie McDonnell and nothing about Jin-Woo Jeon and Yunus Konak. But it doesn't take long to look at stats and see what others are saying about them to get a good impression.

And to me (alongside Jamie Donley and Myles Peart-Harris) looks like a really promising change in direction for our recruitment team, and a sign of real intent from the board.

There are no guarantees, but I'm personally really excited for what we've seen and what's to come.

Yeah, I think the truth is new signings create excitement at any time.

This is very true. We don't tend to look at it objectively - new players for Oxford United will always get us, as fans, excited - we'll accentuate the positives and start dreaming.

I tend to try and step back and imagine if said signings were being made by other (rival) clubs. It makes me more objective.

So, by that notion, it's worth imagining if (for example) Portsmouth were making the same signings - how would you feel?

For what it's worth, I'd probably look at Konak and say 'interesting, clearly talented, hasn't played much football recently, massive gamble for them'. I'd think Peart-Harris was a solid addition and makes sense. But if I saw them signing McDonnell I'd be really jealous and be pissed off that we didn't get him instead.

Of course we don't know how any signing will pan out, but it already gives you a more objective steer rather than getting caught up in 'HMS p*ss the league' (as is so easily done).

A great example of fans getting excited over any player signing is Tom Bradshaw. Here are just a couple of posts on the first page of his thread when he signed:

Great piece of business. Welcome

Superb. Welcome aboard Tom.

Sounds like a really good signing.

Excellent work by the club - bringing in an established championship striker with a decent pedigree (scored 17 league goals in the season before last) who GR knows well. Most importantly, he doesn’t have much of an injury history by the looks of things as the best attribute a player can have is availability!

Plus the Millwall fans are all saying he works bloody hard for the team, which sounds very promising.

Does anyone know his style of play, is he a target man who can win headers and bring people into play etc?

Welcome to the club and hope you smash in goals aplenty for us Tom!

Feels like a positive signing, albeit he’ll be 33 in the summer.

Championship experience on and off the pitch. If he helps us retain our place in the Championship for next season and beyond then it’s money well spent.

Very much a Rowett signing.

Welcome aboard Tom, hope your time at OUFC is successful and enjoyable.

Exactly the type of striker we needed to compliment Harris who’s been outstanding under Rowett & Scarlett who is up and down as young player learning on the job.

3 good striking options.

Exactly.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a post saying ‘he’s s**t’ about a new signing. Fans hope for the best and will put a positive spin on just about every signing we make - perfectly understandable and perfectly acceptable. The harsh truth is of the 5 or 6 we make this window, at least one or two will flop - that’s just how it is, for every BDK there will be a Sibley.

I think some may have been close for Tiendalli considering his lack of playing/injuries. But in general I agree.

Not everybody….

Not knocking the people who posted as it’s all a guessing game, but I can’t be the only one who scanned down hoping they were not on this? We certainly don’t need to look any further.

Even some mods get over excited at times...

Good signing, glad to finally have this confirmed.

Interesting looking back at what we said about players at the time they signed. So let's play 'guess the signing':
