I’m still struggling to get the excitement of Jamie McDonnell?

I don’t know him and haven’t seen him play, but his stats aren’t amazing, so could someone please enlighten me?

Yes, he is the right age, so could be a developmental opportunity, but?
Which stats are you looking at? We have been crying out for a defensive, ball winning midfielder and McDonnell is one of the best in League One, which is backed up by stats.

This is how he compares to other League One midfielders. Gorrin was one of our most important players for a spell despite the fact he couldn't pass a ball because he was so good defensively, McDonnell might not be quite ready yet but excels in an role we're absolutely desperate for.

Fair play to Ed. Not many would take the blame for such a poor signing.
I doubt he knew how the signing would go the day it was made, but if Bradshaw was actually a Rowett signing then it probably never was all about what he did on the pitch anyway (which can clearly be seen in Rowett’s comments in the announcement).

Isn't that what Konak does too?

Out of interest which stats are you looking at?

Nonsense. Some of them are proven championship players

Like who ? Bradshaw comes under the ‘no longer that’, Tyler ‘never will be that’ and the likes of Harris, Placheta and the rest in the ‘never been that’ category. Remember we are talking Championship level players here. You tell me out of that lot - and add in Dembele too - who gets a sideways move to another Championship club ? None in my opinion.

Konak for now.

McDonnell as back up.

We needed 2 reinforcements in centre mid.

From speaking to a Forest fan I was told McDonnell has stepped up at each level he has played. I’m sure Forest will have a hefty future % of sale figure if we do sign him.

BDK, Cam Bran, Konak, McDonnell & Vaulks, looks a great blend to me.

Er ……. “I don’t know him, haven’t seen him play, but I’ve dismissed him as no good already.”

Assuming the Forest lad signs we would then have 5 centre midfielders, which makes you think either we are going to be playing 3 in midfield or one of them is moving on, 5 into 2 for less than half a season after struggling through with 3 for the first half of the season seems a big jump.

As others have pointed out, you must be looking at the wrong stats… the stats literally tell you he’s statistically the best CDM in L1 and he also averages the most tackles per 90 out of any player currently playing in England.

We might actually be able to bring some CM subs on to the pitch and rest BDK and Brannagan's legs in some games - what a real luxury! This is not meant at all facetiously, I'm genuinely excited!

I didn't think I could be as annoyed with our club policy on recruitment as I was when we only had two proper full backs for the right and left side of defence for about two years, under Robinson. But having only two fit CMs in such an intense league as the Championship for over half a season has pushed it close in the ridiculousness stakes. Glad that this era is hopefully over! Think we'll start to see the best from BDK (and Vaulks!) again now that they can hopefully stop running themselves into the ground week in and week out.

Am I allowed to get a bit annoyed? Some great signings already but I don't understand why these couldn't have been done in the latter half of the summer window. I know, I know. I'm criticising the recruitment team for getting good players in - they cant win. I wish we could have done it sooner though. Anyway, plenty to look forward to for this Saturday.

I genuinely have such a positive feeling about Bloomfield (mild cheddar and everything).
Because the purse strings were tightened, Then.

I had a read of the Mansfield forum. They all seemed to rate McConnell highly. Seemed to be a highly regarded defensive midfielder who protects the back 4. A few question marks over whether he’s quite ready for the Championship, but lots of comments that he’d be playing there within the next season or so and have a career at that level. So it seems to be a good signing in terms of what we need now and the model of saleable assets in the future.

I think we might see more out of BDK if he’s not on the pitch 90 minutes every game. He’s been absolutely pummelled physically coming into the fast paced and unrelenting Championship.

Yes, Championship players in name only. Come on, look at the technical level of some of the players at Swansea - not even a top half Championship club. At Sheffield United etc. They have players on a different level to the likes of Tyler and Placheta. We have good players, tenacious players, but only really a handful that other Championship clubs would want. Hopefully this new influx of players in this window helps raise our bar to somewhere closer to the level required.

I'm going to bite .
These players mostly played lots of matches last season at Championship level with some match winning performances from them.
Maybe not consistant enough to be high end Championship players but defo good enough to be in a Championship teams squad .
Tyler ,who you particulary want to fail for reasons unknown , has the potential to be top end and to note Swansea and Ipswich thought him so poor that they set out to kick lumps out of him at every opportunity as identified as a danger to them , in the Championship no less !!

Brilliant so far ,do we think we will have another CB in and maybe another winger ? maybe another striker ? we also need quite a few out ,4/5 out on loan or sold .

What Dick actually means is 'none of these are top quality Championship players who are knocking on the door of a move to the Premier League'. Which is true.

We have lower-end Championship players, just like half the division.

But Dick perseveres with (what is now) a tired trope - until such time as they stand out as being exceptional at this level they must be dismissed as beneath it.

It's boring. And more importantly, utter bollox.
