We've been crying out for more midfield options, and now it looks like we've got them some are willing to throw Vaulks in the bin. McDonnell doesn't have to be registered in the 25 so Vaulks isn't going anywhere this window
I’m not saying Vaulks goes anywhere, but I just don’t think he’ll get much game time, he’s a good pro though so I’d imagine having him around will be something Bloomfield wants initially

I know it’s sarcasm but he surely doesn’t get a look in if we have those 4, he might make the bench but he’d only be coming on to close out games perhaps.

He’s good to have around the place but he’s not a championship footballer quality wise anymore, I think we can all see that
Baffling.
250 Championship appearances, Sheffield Wednesday’s player of the season the season before last and now he’s ready for the bin?
Not just yet.

Well his legs have gone and we’ve all seen it this season, he can hardly pass the ball 5 yards & doesn’t have the legs to get around the pitch, time catches up with you, I think we will be a pressing team under Bloomfield, I don’t think he’s got the legs and energy for that role and I think with the signings we are making maybe the club accept it too.

I think the bloke is great for what he does for mental health & he’s one of the nicest blokes you can meet, maybe how I worded it wasn’t the best but I don’t see how he has a role in our side going forward.

There's a weird mentality often shown on here that that whenever a player has a bad patch he needs to be 'binned'. I'm happy to keep Vaulks as a squad player, particularly given what he's done for the club and beyond.

Ter Avest, Placheta ,Krastev, Bradshaw on there way hopefully. Hopefully another Striker/winger ,defender and hopefully the lad from Forrest Mcdonnell ,but 3 great signings so far ,well done weve just got to get the team firing very quickly. But well done everyone 👏
It would be madness to lose Ter Avest if we're confident in his fitness. Best right back at the club.

Love what he's done for mental health but that's absolutely no reason to keep a player around, everyone should be contributing on the pitch. Seems a great guy but apart from long throws I don't see what he gives us, he's an ok but not great passer, doesn't really get around the pitch and as a holding midfielder he provides precious little cover for the defence.

McDonnell if it happens looks a really smart bit of business and back to the previously successful method of buying promising young players who could go for a profit. I've not seen him, plenty of Mansfield fans have questions over his technical ability at the moment but it looks like he'll excel at the mucky stuff which is what we need and I assume what Vaulks should be doing. With Konak doing a similar role it's hard to see where Vaulks fits in. This relies on the new boys hitting the ground running mind which is far from a guarantee but Vaulks in the starting line up is one of the most obvious places we need to upgrade.

But but but I was being assured yesterday that everything was rubbish because we hadn't made any midfield signings yet, and it was already too late! ;)

Or you spent the day telling us that any signings made before deadline day are only 7th or 8th choice - and that the only good signings come right at the end of the window.

Interested to know how you feel now.

Are Konak, McDonnell and Jin-woo Jeon all really sh*t, or were you just talking it?

I see what you're saying and agree that he's very limited as a footballer, however, he had a great turn of form at the end of last season and under a new head coach may be able to rediscover some good form.

The main reason why I think he has so many poor games is because he really lacks composure. He wastes so much energy screaming at officials, teammates and opponents rather than channeling it into the more important parts of the game.

I really *didn't* say that. Not sure why you're putting words in my mouth tbh.

I said that it was better the club took their time to sign the right players (which presumably and hopefully they have done), rather than just sign someone less good earlier in the window to get a body in.

Here are my posts from that discussion btw, if you'd like to re-read.

Not so sure. Vaulks is now 32. No idea of the stats, but I wouid be reasonably sure he was winning back far more possession this time last year. Nothing to do with overall fitness, but most players lose that extra 'snap' around this age. He's out of contract this summer- I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him moved on this January. Probably a L1 club on an 18 month deal. He's done well for us but this is probably the end. Or at least the beginning of the end, etc, etc.

Beginning of the end feels like a possibility, though the dismissive attitude toward him is still quite weird.

This is the same man that had regular meetings with Joey Beauchamp's family amongst other positives.

But nobody disputes the latter, he’s done amazing things and he deserves massive respect and actually has received that from the footballing community.

It’s his on pitch contribution, I actually loathe to say it as he’s such a good bloke but he’s a liability on the pitch in his current form.
