Give him a fixed deadline within next few days, if not move onto another target on the list.

He did ok previously but would still prefer a more physical presence in the MF.
And if we move on to another target on the list and the same thing happens then what next?

This is why deadlines are unhelpful and shows why the whole process is very difficult.

Patience is often rewarding.

We have a deal for Matos on the table, ready, and he could sign today. However, looks as though it would be the end of the window as he is waiting to see what other offers come in for him. The recruitment team really want him, but at what stage do we move on?
If that's genuinely the case, I'd prefer we bin off the opportunity to sign him and focus on someone who a) wants to be here and b) isn't going to screw us around until which point we're praying that we get someone through the door to cover CDM.

The alternative is you leave it too late and don’t get anyone, as we did in the summer window and scrambled around trying to find a free agent and then had only 3 MF…

We’ve had 3 centre midfielders since the window shut at the end of August. 4 months between then & the January window opening.

Brannagan being injured for a long period of time. (Think he’s also now has proven history of injury issues). BDK adjusting to English football & clearly being run into the ground. Vaulks being relied on more than he should when it’s clear he lacks the physicality for week in week out football.

It’s now 2 weeks into the January window and it’s not been addressed.

That’s lazy. Not football manager.
Not sure lazy is the right word here, the team are working their hardest to get players in and have two decent players already
I’m sure we could have got a number of central midfielder in by now, no problem. However we are looking for a decent midfielder .
Remember Mateke absolute waste of time. We need to stay up and to do that get the right calibre of player.
Maybe it’s Matos maybe it’s not, but getting the right player in a January window is difficult.

If true then did he really want to come here? If true out the paperwork that apparently is in the ranke for him chuck it it the bin and move on

Absolutely right. Why would you spend another window courting a player who CLEARLY doesn't want to be here.

Move on quickly.

Would be a weird move for Matos given the relatively few games AIK will play in the coming months.

I wonder if a mix tape of his favourite songs might be enough to see this one over the line. Time to get creative with our deals!
But would you want him if as I’ve been reading he’s been enquired about and would have had a decent offer on the table but he’s looking elsewhere? I know football careers are short and yes you want to make some money he’s still young and a couple of seasons with us might improve him and he could command a decent contract, but at the moment nip this one in the bud.

Or did our ‘experienced’ bean counter sanction the purchase of a rightback in the summer for just shy of a million and then suddenly realise there was no money left in the budget for a defensive midfielder? Now that would be lazy.

The recruitment team can put in all the hours god has given them but if other people don’t do their job properly it’s they who get the criticism, and in turn it’s the manager who ends up as the fall guy.

You see a lot of it in the corporate world, middle managers promoted above their capabilities but very good at avoiding accountability.

No surprises there. If he wanted a move to Oxford it would have been done by now.
He doesn’t.
And, to be honest, I’m glad about that; he isn’t the midfielder we need. Just yet another obsession with a previous player by some of our fans.

I think the reason is because they (our expert footballing people) don’t believe it’s a gap in our squad otherwise they’d of addressed it over many months they had in the summer window.

I see it as a major problem with how open we are in that area. They obviously don’t as they’ve had a whole summer and now two weeks of a January window to address it.
Thats a really stupid thing to think, though

As always, it it wildly unrealistic to expect that targets of ours aren’t going to have more than one club after them, and that they shouldn’t look at multiple offers before deciding.

They will but move on previous seasons mainly with Robinson we go after a target that’s mentioned early non on the transfer window and we don’t get them and we move on to option B but we’ve awaited to long for option A that option N has now gone and we sometimes end up with “ who”?

I don’t quite get the fondness some of our fan base have with Matos. I thought he ran around like a headless chicken at times.
That's what Sheff United fans said about him too. I quite liked him and he'd definitely do a job for us. But plenty more carp in the lake, as Cam might say

Matos is not good enough - forget him and move on.
I think that he would be a very big player for us ( with potentially big resale value).
But yes, if he isnt interested then we need to move on.
I am s little surprised that from a footballing perspective he us looking to go to Sweden?

But it is also possible to leave it late and get the original target.

You are looking only at the most negative option.

Your plan is give a deadline then try for another option regardless as to the quality as they are the only ones available.....meanwhile the best original target becomes available but the club have signed someone not as good.

There are many ways to look at this problem but yours appears to forget all the implications and difficulties.
