I’m not sure who would actually want him at this point, his legs have completely gone, I’d honestly think twice if I was a side in league 2 signing him.

I don’t think he’s even had a clear chance when he’s played.

I get that but we only signed him a year ago so was hoping someone else is desperate enough to take a punt on him.

No good getting them in on the 1st of February & then they take a month to get up to speed, it will be too late by then.

You can get the business you want done as early as you want to, anything else is just noise & excuses.
Clearly from someone who knows the ins and outs of transfer business in the world of football.
No more noise and excuses please OUFC.

Missed a 1 on 1 away at Stoke on his first startand much like Romney's own miss that day, feels like if that had gone in, things could have been very different.
Instead he's started just 3 more games, a year later.

If it were as simple as you pretend it is, the window would only be 24 hours long.

Wouldnt surprise me at this stage if we dont see much movement in or out until the final days of the window.

You do realise that this isn't a computer game? Apart from having to negotiate with their clubs, players themselves and their agents, there are also likely to be other clubs looking at the same players, who will likely take their time to consider what their next steps are. Some clubs will be holding out to see what signings they can make before being prepared to part with the players we might want; others might need loan fees negotiated (or other fees if it's a permanent signing), etc. It's not just a question of Oxford saying, for example, 'We'd like to sign McNair' and the player, their agent and club saying 'righto, job's a goodun' and here he is

(when England were quite good)
As an Italian, I have no stake in the matter, but hasn't the England team reached 2 finals in their last 3 tournaments? Arguably, they are at the very least "quite good".

Back on topic...

People rushing for us to get rid of players should also consider that we, alike other clubs, will likely keep hold of those players until we know that we can bring in the ones we want. We have already made 2 signings from top-flight sides so far, and we'll probably see some more action towards the end of the window. As Stranger said, it's not a computer game, and there are a plethora of cogs in the transfer window machine.

you ITK then? lol
no, but wed heard about Donley and Peart Harris a few days at least before they signed and no news at the moment suggests nothing coming soon.

Yes I do, but we can’t mess around, we don’t have time to wait, ifs player doesn’t want to commit then move on to the next target, we need reinforcements now, not in 2 weeks time where another 3 games have passed.

Not at all, but we don’t have the time to wait, 2 weeks pass without significant upgrades and that’s 3 games where we are plodding on with the same players, I realise it’s not easy and as simple but unfortunately that’s the situation we find ourselves in, so time is of the essence

Perhaps but I don’t really think he’s got the legs to get himself in those positions anymore, seems to have completely lost it, but that can happen to anyone.

Nowhere did I say it was simple, but the situation we find ourselves in means we need them in sooner and more than most, the only team probably worse off than us currently is Pompey.

It’s not simple and it’s not easy but we need the reinforcements as soon as possible, we’ve got a couple and they deserve praise for that but more needs to be done as soon as we can, we’ve got 3 games next week, which is going to be massive.

I think you’d be surprised about how many we would move on from. Would you rather our 7th choice DM tomorrow or 2nd choice on deadline day?

This would be ideal for a lot of posters, wouldn't it?

Then they could also complain about our 'bargain bucket' signings after we've moved on to our second/third/fourth choices, or bemoan the fact we didn't wait a few days to get a player who club X picked up a few days later, or - even better - cry about how we shouldn't of overpaid for this player just to get them in early because now we're stuck with them on high wages, etc.

I genuinely think some posters use transfer windows as an opportunity to sow the seeds of the outrage they've got planned for the end of the season, or the next window.

Presumably Helik, signed on Friday 17th January, was only 5th or 6th choice?

We signed him on the equivalent, last season, of this Friday. We won the Saturday home game the following day with him at the heart of it, and the Tuesday night home game just 3 days later too. Massive  massive impact in the middle of the window.

Of course we want the right players, but let's not be complacent. We have 11 more home games, probably need to win at least 6 or 7 of them - and 3 of them come before the window closes (and 2 - both very winnable - in the next week).

Windows aren't identical though. Would you have been even more pleased if instead of signing Helik, we'd signed an inferior player a week earlier, just because we could get it done faster?

Well if we are 8 points from safety come the end of the transfer window it probably won’t matter who we sign, so I’d like to see the signings in way before then.

I don’t think that’s a particularly ridiculous thing to say.

But there is no reason to think you will get a better player just because you wait till the end? Good players don't suddenly become available on the last day very often.

He was a desperation signing last year. I hope we don’t make any this year. We want up and coming youngsters with big potential, who won’t mind playing in League 1 if we get relegated. It’s a tall order.

I am not sowing anything myself, we could be 8/9 points from safety come 1st February, so I feel the need for reinforcements is more urgent.

I respect your opinion if you think differently but that is mine. 👍

But there seems to be an attitude of "just get someone, anyone, in quickly", when presumably the club have their targets and are working to get them in, and if it takes a bit longer, they see that as worth it due to the perceived quality of the player.

I suppose the argument against that is we have known about the centre midfield problem for so long that you would have hoped we would have been working to get someone in for a while, its not that quick really? The ground work could have been done before the window opened.
