Apologies that this isn’t about Dembele, but Luke Graham currently on telly playing for Dundee against Hearts. There’s another cracking defender called Findlay, or something, on display.
May have needed to stress the irony in the second bit. Findlay, to be fair, looked alright.

Graham was good and I think would be an astute singing. Has a contract on the table at Dundee, but is clearly stalling.

If you’re interested in watching the highlights, check out Craig Gordon’s save at the death. One of the best saves I’ve ever seen.

Lot of hyperbole about goals and saves, but that save is right up there. World class, then you add the timing of it just before the final whistle.

For those of us of a 'certain age' that was very similar to the Gordon Banks save in the 1970 WC against Brazil. The Gordon save is the best I've seen in years- and he's 43!

Wonder if Eric goes on the Palace forum and tells them he’s been converted into a fully fledged Oxford United supporter and how wonderful it is to still be in this year’s FA Cup.

And did they know Brennan Johnson is now only worth half the number of mince pies they paid for him.

The Palace ultras would burn me alive.

I was trying to explain this to my brother at Christmas who just doesn’t get it.

Palace a huge part of my life growing up - going with my dad, then going with mates, thinking I was a gobby know it all at the back of the Holmesdale stand. I went home and away and a season ticket holder for years.

Then moved to Oxford about 20 years ago. Stopped going so much when kids arrived and then my daughter wanted to see Oxford play, amazing club and I got obsessed again.

Despite my history with Palace I felt like a fraud when they won the FA Cup. Like I’d turned my back on them. I’m an emotional football supporter (that’s why I loved Des so much). Now I strangely don’t fit in anywhere properly. I still love Dougie Freedman, Mark Bright, Clinton Morrison and Wilf Zaha but now also love Josh McEachran, Josh Murphy and Shemmy. I don’t try to understand just try to let things be as they are.

35p for six mince pies. Still floored by that.

Well we’re glad to have you. If you can live with yourself.

Am I alone in hating mince pies?! Second worst thing about Christmas, just behind the Mrs Brown's Boys Christmas special!

Anyway, think Matos will be very high on our list for January if Sheffield United are prepared to cut their losses and he's willing to take a gamble on potentially not being in the Championship next season.

I can't see the hype around Matos at all.

He also had zero interest in us after his first loan spell - so apart from a few sliding tackles, why would he be considered a positive addition when we're fighting relegation?

He had interest, spent time at the training ground before pre-season started and has kept in touch with people at the club.

On paper, a deal with a club who narrowly missed out on promotion to the PL was more attractive than one to a club that had just survived. I'm disappointed he didn't sign in the summer but I wouldn't begrudge him returning.

And I think that he offers something as a defensive midfielder or one that can drive forward with the ball - and we could do with both. So I'd happily see him here and think he could be a real asset in time.

Wasn't he only lingering around while he was waiting for other options?

I feel he would have been good under Rowett as a physical player that can win the ball back, but his technical ability leaves something to be desired.

Almost every window we are in for players that have previously been on our radar - which means that most have taken a better offer at some point. Thats the reality of our situation.

As for Alex Matos as a player, I think people saw different things in him. But importantly he's only just turned 21 and is still trying to establish his best position and to get a good run of games. His energy and tenacity would complement BdK perfectly and would allow Cam to be more advanced where he's more dangerous. And he can also get on the ball and drive forward, something we have been desperately missing from our midfield since Baptiste.

So yes, if we can get him on a permanent, or a loan with sn option, then I'd snap him up.

We don’t need somebody who “will be a real asset in time” - we need a hard- running, ball-winning nasty midfielder who dominates the area in front of the back four and allows BdK and Cam freedom to go forward - and we need him NOW to get us out of the mess we’re in.

Agree, ideally we need to attract Championship-ready players to can influence games and results immediately. Easier said than done though?

Fantastic save by Gordon. Banks’, in my opinion, is superior - the way he gets down and somehow scoops it upwards and away is staggering. The other thing that will always make the Banks save the best is that it was a near perfect header in a WC game from the greatest player the game has probably ever seen. The Dundee player in an SPL game just can’t compete with that !!!! I agree though that’s one of the best I’ve seen in a long while and the whistle going seconds after adds to the worthiness of it !!

That’s my one concern with Matos - this isn’t about what he might become, it’s what he’s capable of immediately and over a sustained 20 game period. We need someone who can find Brannagan type consistency from the off and that will likeky mean spending big on a more experienced campaigner. Matos is a good player but was a bit up and down in terms of performance level.

Any more rumours about guys ?

In the middle on minces pies - okay but overated

100% with you on Mrs Brown - have never understood why so many love it - give me Peep Show or Game On any day

Matos wouldn’t count towards the squad cap on a permanent. Has been in and around the squad before in a team that lacks any level of cohesion, is hard in a tackle, has shown to be able to drive with the ball. He’ll have something to prove after a disappointing 6 months in Sheffield, and there aren’t many 21 year olds with 18 months championship experience like him.

Would be an excellent permanent signing, and a decent loan move

Have to 100% agree, he runs a lot but has little quality on the ball and not sure where people have got this notion he’s a good ball carrier from, he’d be yet another midfielder small in stature, we need a big brute in there with legs to get around.

Whether or not Matos has burnt his bridges - make no mistake, he would be a quality addition for us.

It wasn't just the tackling (as some have suggested). It was buying fouls too (massive in taking pressure off and trying to gain a foothold in a game). He had a knack of winning midfield battles - with our issues I can't believe people wouldn't welcome him with open arms.

It's also remarkable that people bemoan his perceived lack of quality on the ball. I'm not convinced it's an issue for one - but more importantly we have others in our midfield completely devoid of any quality on the ball who also lack the physicality of a Matos.

Is he the perfect centre-midfielder? No (not yet). Would he bring multiple attributes massively lacking in this side? Undoubtedly.

Swansea showed what an energetic midfield can do when pressing the opposition. Matos may not be the finished article on the ball, he may not be the finished article in decision making etc. but he showed in his time at OUFC that he could get around the pitch quickly, he could press and tackle well, and he could get the ball to the likes of Brannagan.

He's a known quantity and much less of a risk than a random PL loanee or a 'brute' whose legs are on the way out. I think it would be a good bit of business and would raise the floor of the squad. I'd much rather see Matos warming up to see a game out than Vaulks.

Matos would be a fantastic addition to this squad. We have good ball-playing midfielders already, what we need is some energy and bite and that's exactly what he'd bring. I don't think we saw the best of him last season given GR kept playing him as a pressing 10. He should be the one scrapping in deeper areas and then playing simple passes into Brannagan/BdK/Donley
