Looking forward to the transfer window review thread because I can’t remember another quite like this one.

Potentially 8 signings and at least 2, probably 3, for significant fees. Expecting 7 out with a couple of substantial pay offs. A new manager too.
It will be up in the next few hours.

Would we really want to though? Has he done enough to convince us he’s the answer to our goal scoring/striker problems? 1 goal in 18 is it?
We can’t be making loans permanent just to be able to pick people.

Lankshear, Donley, Konak, Davies, Prelec all make perfect sense as loans for different reasons. Krastev will go back I assume.

Massoko I can just about get my head around. Plan A went to Verona for £3m and Luton’s asking price was similar for a player we weren’t as sure on. Fine - injuries etc, 6 loans are manageable, can buy him in the summer if all goes to plan.

It’s the Roosken one that feels like an 11th hour panic. Creates a problem we didn’t need for the sake of a back up left back. Probably means Leigh goes as well. All feels like a last minute waste of money that really all ties back to taking weeks to appoint a manager.

I know, but that doesn’t make it commercially or performance wise, the correct thing for the football club.
I disagree. Scoring record has been poor but he’s looked a lively player when he has played and Rowett rarely played him as the lone striker where his physicality has caused the opposition real problems. We’ve lacked a player like him and miss him now.

Only those at the club know whether we are obliged to pay the fee in the summer or not, but if we are then it clearly makes commercial sense to do it early to allow an extra loan player in the squad.

The reason for all the loans is because we don’t have money to spend significant money at the level on transfers, and this is despite Thohir relaxing his decision not to pay any more fees from the summer.

We’ve got some saying that we need yet more signings, and others saying we have too many loans. If you think both are true then you just don’t understand the complexities of recruiting in the Championship on our budget.

I’m also surprised that the club retaining the option to take a view on Makosso, Roosken, Donley etc before making a call is a bad think. If we’d splashed £10m on them now would that have been better?

I think there was some confusion as Cagliari apparently announced it as an obligation, and we said it is an option.
Could be lost in translation maybe.
Not when it comes to Latin roots maybe not - obbligo or opzione- or when lawyers are on the case but who knows?

Return Krastev
Turn Prelec into a permanent
Donley is injured

Now we only have 5
Can Krastev be returned this late in the window?

EDIT: Unless it was done earlier but not yet announced, I guess

I don't see why the window should matter when it's us sending him back to his parent club. Certainly used to be able to cancel loans early and send players back. It would be different if they wanted to call him back - that would definitely be limited to the windows.

But I may be wrong.

Looks like Woo is going to have to make some pretty impressive cameos to get a proper look in. You’d think Emakhu, Peart-Harris and Mills will be some way ahead in the pecking order.
Reading some Millwall comments on their forward, it’s amazing how many describe him like Placheta (lacking consistency, headless chicken, very fast etc). Several comments suggesting he’s best coming on as an impact sub to run at tiring defenders. I wonder whether we might look to do something similar with him and Placheta coming on.

We’ve made a few permanent signings that seem like players you’d be happy with whatever league we’re in next season, a couple of them seem like they have potential to be profit makers for us down the line as well, which is always good

But the squad size, the amount of loans and the sheer scatter gun approach to recruitment really isn’t good enough

We’re up to almost 30 signings now in the three transfer windows since we got promoted, and we sat here now with a squad that is just ridiculous ridiculously big, unable to get rid of several of those signings who most would want rid of if given the opportunity

The absolute refusal to criticise anyone in the senior management team from some on here is absolutely insane to me

You said it, his scoring record is poor.

Assuming it’s an obligation to buy, then the club may as well do it now, absolutely. But that in itself would throw into question that deal, wouldn’t it?

Why would the club agree that deal, for a bloke who’s got nothing by way of evidence to suggest he’d score goals in England?

I don’t think anyone has said that we need more players and less loans. I think what I’ve seen in people saying we need a more targeted approach, to address the deficiencies of our squad. If you don’t think the lack of goals are a problem, then you can’t understand the complexities of how to win a game.

Your last point is redundant. By your own admission, we don’t have significant money to spend on transfers at this level. So permanent signings for the players mentioned can’t have been seriously considered.
