One of the companies I worked for maintained security stuff, alarms, etc, one of the properties that we looked after belonged to a reading player, who had moved to about 3 other clubs, I doubt that he had lived there very much at all in that time

Yes imagine living in a mansion with river views for a year and a half’s salary… how awful.

(I know the post might have been tongue in cheek but it does always make me laugh when people seem to think that footballers on £20k a week are joining clubs to live in a house share in the city centre)
Probably has underwater views as well at the moment given its proximity to the river Humber.

Footballers do seem to marry and settle down very young, but in general most young men aren't that bothered about interior decoration or big gardens - I'm sure a lot of single players are happy to stay in new builds and shared places.

Are you suggesting that Up The Manor simply saw a post on twitter/X from a Mansfield fan (of dubious credibility) and then rehashed it, with a nice bit of smoke and mirrors, on here (just 29 minutes later), in order to appear ITK and create multiple pages of frenzied excitement?

I am shocked.
Just for the record I don't do twitter ,instagram & all the social media stuff the youngsters do .

The club have made an offer for a centre forward & i will leave it at that .

On the Will Evans rumour, I’m doing a lot of work with Mansfield Town at the moment (rolling out an AI fan engagement solution - very riveting) and I was on the phone with their head of commercial yesterday. She told me that the Evans bid was mentioned in a board meeting…

She didn’t confirm whether it was accepted or likely to go ahead, but a bid has definitely gone in for him. Unfortunately, he has injured his ankle, so it’s unlikely that we will be able to get a deal done in January.
With all your contacts at Blackburn & Mansfield im surprised the club haven't employed you as a scout ......

Beautiful work young man👏 .

Started to write a post starting with Think, thought better of it and by mistake posted. Sorry all. Stand down.

Although for getting everyone excited for nothing what I would say is that I don’t think the striker bid rumour from Tuesday night was true.
You quashed the Thin rumour way too soon. We could have got two days of speculation out of that at least.

Have Oxford ever had a thinner player than Ben Futcher?

OK, so at the risk of throwing myself under the ITK bus - I've just been messaged by an acquaintance of mine that we have put in a 'large' bid for a striker (not Will Evans - though we may have bid for him too for all I know).

This acquaintance has a (very) senior management role at the (potentially) selling club (and has done for a long time) - he messaged me (out of the blue) to say that we've put in a serious offer.

Now, bear in mind that we're not close and the last time he messaged me about anything was when I was invited into a corporate box at our away game at his club when we were in League One (said striker wasn't playing for them then, I should add). So he wouldn't message me about any odd rumour and we're not in any regular contact at all.

I have no reason to doubt it. It's quite exciting (not Lauritsen level, but still) - recent goals and still young/developing. Don't think he's been mentioned at all (though from goggling him I can see he has been discussed on the forums of other (much larger) Championship clubs).

I've just given my contact a thumbs up reaction and said 'thanks, keep me posted'. He has no idea I post on here regularly.

And no, I'm not going to say who it is.

Has he said if the bid was / is likely to be accepted?

I live in Beverley, and work in Hull at the 'Fruit Market'.

Hull is by no means glamourous (heavily bombed in the war), and struggles to attract any real investment. There's very few attractions, or reasons to visit IMO. It's also out in the sticks, which doesn't help. Nobody has to pass through it to get anywhere else.

But it is a safe place, with nice people, and you get a hell of a lot more for your money in this part of the country than you do in the South (I used to live in Brighton, so accutely aware of this).

I often see the Hull City players in the local cafes near where I work. Had to get a photo with John Lundstrum back in August of course, which I posted on another thread.

I worked in Hull for 5 years and still go back fairly often. The fruit market regeneration is fantastic and if you take a picture looking across to the marina on a summer evening, many people would not guess it was Hull.

There's a lot of lazy historic criticism of Hull which really irritates me, often from people who haven't been for years or for people who are in and out for football and just see the station/Anlaby Rd or Spring Bank and cast their opinion on the entire place.
The equivalent to only seeing Blackbird Leys, ignoring everything else and deciding Oxford is a s**t hole.

Players sign for Barrow/Luton/Stevenage etc etc and surprisingly don't live in those places. Hull City players no different like you see. And for Lunny, a standard commute across the 62.

You're bang on with it's location being the major obstacle. That being said there are bigger shitholes in the country these days and I'll always defend Hull.

Always fancied living in Beverley, lovely spot.

Any way back to cryptic clues of signings and arguing about being itk.

Thanks mate. I probably earn more money where I am, so I’ll stick to chatting up the ladies in the commercial teams and getting all of the inside information from them…

A lot of my job revolves around speaking with football clubs, so it’s only natural that as a football fans myself, we speak about football.

In all fairness, she didn’t actually say that the bid came from Oxford United. Could have been from anyone, but she did confirm that we were mentioned and a bid has been rejected this week. Could be 2+2=5, but it’s interesting to know that Mansfield themselves are aware of the links/rumours.

I know someone who lives in kirkella seems a nice place

Jayden Wareham
Freddie Draper (Oxford born I believe)
Dom Ballard (though he has been mentioned)

Could you get back in touch and ask whether said player prefers new builds on the outskirts of Bicester with irregular bus routes to Oxford, or prefers luxury mansions in North Yorkshire?

Kirk Ella, West Ella, and Swanland (all grouped together) are where a lot of the 'people with money' live. A lot of footballers (past and present) seem to be there. Nicky Barmby being one of them. Liam Cooper (now at Sheffield Wednesday) has a place there too.

Hull is alright, the old town and the waterfront have a bit of character, the major issue is that it is fairly remote. Middlesbrough, Stoke, Blackburn, West Brom are far less attractive away days (if we are just sticking to Championship) Norwich and Bristol are probably the nicest cities (apart from Oxford and not counting London which is too big to fairly compare with others) in our league.

It’s wrong that I feel quite pleased with myself for playing a small part in taking the Transfer Window chat off on a bizarre tangent about the merits of Hull & surrounding areas as a lifestyle choice for an affluent young footballer. Isn’t it?

Bravo Yellows Forum. Bravo @Some U's fan

Just out of interest, what was the score the day he invited you to the executive box?
