You can dump Dembele, Harris and Romney, there useless when there needed.
Actually think Romney still looks promising when we get him on the ball. Looked half decent in his cameo against Birmingham, but then don't recall him being passed it once against Sheff Utd.

Just isn't the sort of player that seems to suit our systems and style of play this season at all.

It’s sounds (from Bloomfield interview) we may name a squad with one places…to give us options so two miss out for now?

Anyone know what the squad looks like now?
27 eligible squad cap counting players though Goodrham expected to be out for the season, so really it's 26. Bloomfield has indicated that they've told the person who won't be registered whilst also leaving an additional spot open - presumably for Goodrham/Prelec, whoever is fit enough to make a contribution first.

Intriguing that Leigh has been left out along with the injured ter Avest and Goodrham, leaving one space free for later use.

Listening to Bloomfield earlier on, I suspected he was going to leave out Leigh. Sounds like he maybe had an offer to leave but didn't take it?

Shame for Leigh, a real kick in the teeth. I guess they tried to offload Leigh, hence him not playing against Birmingham or Sheffield and putting square pegs in round holes instead!

Any chance they could leave that space for a free transfer rather than one of the 2 full backs.?

I’m not overly thrilled with how Greg has been treated. Scored goals for us. Was a huge step up in quality at LB when we signed him in L1, and has always given 100% in the Championship even if at times he’s looked a little outclassed (he isn’t alone in that!)

Obviously if he’s had a plethora of move options and turned them all down to belligerently stay here then that’s not great and I’d rethink my stance. But yeah, based on the information currently available I’m a little uncomfortable with someone who has always served our club extremely well being hung out and embarrassed somewhat because we’ve got our numbers wrong.

I think it became quite clear that Leigh would leave or not be registered, as soon as Roosken was signed.

It’s disappointing for Leigh, but that is the game when there are only 25 places available. He’ll understand the position that the club and he are in, and I don’t think it’s particularly personal or that deep.

He’s not been particularly impressive this season or last, and if the club think it’s time to massage his exit then so be it. We cannot afford sentiment now, we are in a fight for survival.

Been a good player for us but this league is brutal, and he’s not quite up to the mark.

Hung out? Leigh would have known he wasn’t going to be registered. He had the chance to leave but has decided to sit on his contract at the club.
People moan when managers get a pay off but here we have a player who could have left for regular football but would rather sit in the stands picking up his wages from the club.

He has been great for us in the past but I do t have much sympathy for not being registered.

Not sure you read my post in full mate. I said ‘based on the information currently available’. Nothing has been said publicly or on the record about any approach? Or that he’s had multiple offers to go and just refused them all on sight. (Unless I’ve missed it!)

My post also pointed out that if he’s had multiple offers and belligerently refused to go then my stance changes.

But in the absence of any information to the contrary, I’m sad that such a popular figure and hard working player is having his time at the club end in a somewhat forced, ugly manner.

You’re right, I didn’t read it properly 😅

He was literally our joint top scorer last season! And certainly would have been better than Spencer or, I suspect, Huddersfield’s 4th choice.

Still, progress and all that.

I was quite pro Romeny for ages. He's got decent technique etc. But I saw him close up at Charlton and was really unimpressed. He's pushed off the ball all the time. And is extremely slow. I'm not even sure he'd cut it in L1 tbh. He looked decent against MKD where his (lack of) pace was less of an issue. Shame because he has had a few good moments, but he just doesn't offer enough.

What's the point of a deadline to submit a squad if you don't have to list all the players you want to play and you can hold back spaces for any number of players you might have training with you? What's to stop eg Wrexham having 50 players on their books but only submitting 20 of them in January while the rest train on with equivalent wages in case first team injuries give them a chance later in the season? Something's not right there.

Presume that the spare place and using it has restrictions on it which seem to revolve around injuries to those in the squad. A bit like when you can reach out for a first team goalie.

I liked Greg Leigh and scored some great goals but if his time with us is now over as we’ve improved then I thank him for his time with us and wish him all the best to wherever he goes and hope he gets a place in the Jamaican World Cup team.

I mean, there's nothing to stop them. But none of the players who aren't registered can be named in a matchday squad, so you'd have 30 players getting paid just to train with nothing but a slight hope of getting registered at a later date and getting a game then. Good luck keeping a group like that happy!

I feel sympathy for Greg, but it's really the only logical choice. Given that Bloomfield would clearly rather have Spencer playing on the left and Long on the right than give Leigh a game, that makes Greg fourth choice left wing back right now. Not much point registering him in those circumstances.

Could he go on loan to somewhere like the MLS? Saudi? Maybe there were no deals on the table so staying on £5-8k(?) a week and training is preferable to a payoff and sitting on his sofa for 5 months.
