Whisper it, but I think the early signs are that our January window is looking pretty good. MPH and McDonell have come in and gone straight into probably our best XI. Massongo has had a strong first couple of games. Early signs today of Emakhu and Roosken were promising. Obviously haven't seen Jeon yet so jury out there. The only real miss looks to have been Kabak, although that too is on the basis of only a couple of appearances.

General squad depth also much improved, particularly (of course) at CM.

I wasn't hugely impressed with our window, as I thought that (particularly by the end) it seemed like our strategy was essentially launching s**t at a wall to see what sticks. But, with all the usual caveats that it's too early to tell definitively etc, it does seem to have improved us.

Not even sure Konak can be classed as a miss, or at least not in the sense of a Bradshaw. In the 3 games we have seen him in, I would 1 has probably been slightly negative (Bristol City) a middling one (Brum) and a good cameo (Sheff U). He has improved game on game IMO, and still think that he will have a role to play, even if not to the level of MPH or McDonnell

Don't forget Donley too!

Happy to take the money rather than actually go and play games for the benefit of his career and international chances.
He'd still get the same money on loan somewhere else and I'm sure he'd have preferred to do that and keep fit for a potential world cup place than sitting around at Oxford.

I think we will pay him off and have missed out on a deal to sell him ,if it was to Bolton I think he was silly because I can see them coming up

Wasn’t that enthralled with Emakhu today, and not sure the MPH experiment worked either, kept getting caught offside with basic errors. Was wondering if he could play a no 10 role, in behind Lankshear.

Makosso looks a good player.

Definitely MPH in the '10'.

We need that physicality, power and strength (and bit of quality) there that brings others into play. It's really no coincidence that our best performances this season have come with Phillips or Prelec in behind Lankshear.

And I mean this as a compliment - MPH is basically like signing Matty Phillips - but 10 years earlier.

Was it an official policy to sign long-standing chums?

Listening to the new Ruben talking about his friendship with Brian, McDonnell chatting about his summer getaways with Brodie and Peart-Harris calling Konak his 'little brother', it does seem to be a bit of a theme.

I know it's a small world and all that, but then you add Donley and Lankshear, who are reportedly best pals (and formed a formidable on-field partnership at youth level).

Nicer to think it's an uncanny coincidence in a way.

Hopefully it makes a difference.

How’s that wonderful transfer business going? Awaits few certain posters to crawl out of Waldrons backside.

I'm not playing devils advocate, but what would you have done differently this window? We had to make up for the shocking summer window by recruiting an excess of players and we signed players to fill positions that were required and added depth.

Yes, we needed a striker, but we've been extremely unlucky that Donley got injured 15 mins into his debut as he was supposed to be the attacking link to provide more goals to Lankshear which would have at least been a start.

I still don’t think that you know what the word lazy means.

Also, didn’t you praise most of the signings when they came in?

Last night is on the manager for me, I think it’s a much better squad now than before the window

A low bar though. Prior it was a mid table league 1 squad. Now it’s upper League 1/low champ at a push.

And it was a good window. That’s how bad the summer was.

- 2 goals in 7 games against teams in the bottom half.
- No goal at home since Boxing Day
- 4 goals in 8 games since Jan 1st

Squad might appear better, but we are still starting games with Harris up front or asking him to come on and change games after 60 minutes. It’s was incredibly naive to not reinforce the top end of the pitch, rather than rely on a 20 year old, Mark Harris and an ailing Prelec.

I don’t think it’s particularly revolutionary to say that either. It just seems baffling that our head of football operations and Head of recruitment seemed unable to identify the striker position as a significant priority. Instead plumping for another left back to complement the two (+ Brown) we already have.

The gulf between mid-table League 1 and bottom of the Championship is vast. The pre-January squad would easily be one of the best in L1 even if it’s one of the worst in the Champ. As can be seen by most of the players having proven themselves as top L1 players at some point.

We will soon find out if they are top league 1 players because that's where we are going after last night. We should have got another center forward in and another Central midfield General. But that will have to be the summer now.

Can we talk about Cameron Brannagan?

I hope he's carrying a niggly injury, but the realist in me thinks he might be done at this level I'm any case.
Our lack of quality in the middle, and our resultant inability to get a foothold in games will be one of the main reasons we're relegated.

It's not CB's fault. He works his a**e off and loves the club. Recruitment has been poor. Why did 'The Future of Turkish Football' remain on the bench, while Vaulks (someone I admire but simultaneously never want to see turn out for us again) come on in the second half?

Agree - he's been pretty woeful most of this season. I think having the captaincy doesn't help as all he seems to do now is argue with refs and wrestle opposition at corners.
The few times he gets the ball he lazily just pings it out wide.

There were a couple of times last night he actually drove forward, then played it through to the wide players and we actually looked semi threatening... then we reverted to raking long balls out wide again.

Look at the positive - a loyal servant who will undoubtedly be one of our best players in L1 next season - unless he really can't face having to work under Bloomfield much longer

Based on his reaction when he came off yesterday, I'm not sure about the strength of that relationship
