Can we have a reminder of the players who came in please. There was a rush of reserves of League One teams at the end.

I think its seven players on loan but only five in a squad. I read we have (or had) 37 players!

If we signed a striker and had a couple more leave then this would have been an excellent window. It will definitely be hard to survive, but we've added a lot of depth and more quality that was needed, especially in midfield.

The constant hatred and scapegoating towards Ed Waldron is uncalled for to be honest.

We will not know who has left or signed until the morning with these time sheets and we had another extention untill 23-00 for that millwall lad to sign but its s**t or bust time now and the players need to stand up and be counted starting tonight

Lots of young legs with some degree of experience have been brought in and there are great rewards to be had for players wanting to nail their contract by staying up. Club has one eye on planning for next season and depending on those options or obligations to buy we should still have a good nucleus of players to start next season.

Always thought we could have been bringing as many as 8 players in and in all honesty with what we had on board it was what was needed. Putting this all together is going to be a massive challenge for Bloomfield and we need 2 or 3 key players back quickly from injury too.

If we can beat the odds and stay up with this squad and keep those that we are obligated to buy we will have become a very competitive team. I think we have given ourselves a better chance to stay up and hopefully the huge change in players and manager will make us a lot less predictable to play against now.

For me, it’s a mix of good, bad and ugly.

Good:
- Somehow finding budget to sign 8 players after the taps ran dry in the summer (still waiting to understand why exactly).
- MPH (if we can figure out his best position).
- MacDonnell
- Excited to see Donley.
- Finally signing a new left winger, assuming Emakhu signed!

Bad:
- No new striker. Lankshear is likely the player now we need to play every remaining game and who we can least afford to get injured.
- What is the point of Roosken if Leigh is sticking around?
- Obligation to buy Roosken - rather than option - if unspecified conditions are met.
- Doubt more than 3 of the new 8 will be first team regulars by mid March (MacDonnell, MPH and Donley). While, on paper, the 8 seem to improve depth of squad, I fear we will regret quantity over quality.

Ugly:
- Very disappointing number of outgoings. Says a lot about our recruitment since entering the Championship that we have so many players we cannot offload to anyone.
- Phillips going from being our starting LWB to being paid off in 48 hours is inexplicable. Curious as to Bloomfield’s explanation for this when Nathan asks him tomorrow.
- 8 loans currently, but only 5 spots in matchday squad.
- Despite having the most bloated squad in my lifetime, we arguably still don’t have the right players to play a 3-5-2/5-3-2 (appreciate Mills could “do a job” but there is no natural RWB in squad other than HTA, who can’t stay fit, and Spencer is a decent defender but is not good enough to play as a wing back).

Overall though, I’m still a smidge more confident that we will stay up than I was on January 1st, so I guess I would give the window a 3/5.

If, as is widely believed, we have a budget of around 18th, then 23rd position is a significant under-schievement.
It depends on.whether 30% of the budget is on players loaned out and not played ( speculating).
Certainly a lot of our budget will have gone on Findlay, Moore, Thorniley, Dale, Dembelee, Sibley, Phillips, Bradshaw ( plus Negru, GoD).
Last years recruitment has cost us.

Would love to know which five clubs we apparently have bigger budgets than, and what that's based on.

Not sure how that can possibly be the case when all the match day revenue goes straight on to FK's pockets.

What other income stream do we have that put us above five others?

I think the lack of out-goings could be more detrimental than any missed targets. How do you keep such a large squad happy? Of course competition for a starting spot is important but will those players that came in this month because happy sitting on the bench or not even making the squad?!

With such a large squad it will take from now until the end of the season to work out who his best 11 are.

It's great that the board have backed such a increase in playing budget, I just feel getting rid of some of the higher earning bench warmers and bringing in 2-3 of strong signings would have been more sensible.

Initially, it’s going to be less of an issue as I can see Krastev returning and Prelec not being fit for a while. I’d also not be too surprised if Davies plays a bit part. I suspect he won’t mind that given he was basically sidelined at Rangers.

Unfortunately, I actually think we have a couple of permanent players who will be quite happy picking up a wage and not doing a lot else. If they weren’t happy with that, they and their agents would have done a lot more to secure moves of some sort over the last two-three windows.

It’s why I have respect for Sibley who has at least seemingly been willing to go out on loan to get game time. I don’t for one minute believe the club weren’t willing to take a bit of a hit on the likes of O’Donker and Dembele to get them loans or permanent moves.

Unless we hear otherwise this morning my take/guess on the strange case of Matt Philips playing left
wingback against Birmingham and having his contact terminated two days later is this;

A deal had been lined up for Leigh to leave hence why he didn’t start and also why he didn’t come on as a substitute either despite being the obvious natural replacement for Currie and when Philips was replaced just after half time. Leigh and the deal were being protected, not that unusual.

But for whatever reason that deal fell through and suddenly there was a desperate need to get some wages off Tim’s spreadsheet and thus the subsequent surprise departure of Philips.

Taking into account the opposition and how they set up, and how comfortable they were when coming up against the press, our formation, (5 at the back) tactics (over run in midfield) and players starting or coming on as subs (Philips, Harris, Romeny) it was all a bit of a strange mess on Saturday.

Firstly, thanks to Erik Thohir. His money hasn’t been spent particularly efficiently but he’s given the recruitment team every chance this window.

Key issues running into the window have been addressed. Number one was the lack of midfield depth and we’ve addressed that with McDonnell and Konak.

Number two was the supply line and we’ve spent significant fees on Jeon Jin-Woo and Emakhu out wide, and brought in MPH and Donley.

Less positive has been how messy the end of the window was. Missing out on Edmundsson. Phillips being picked over Leigh on Saturday then leaving two days later and an LB being rushed in on yet another loan.

I scored it 4 because I think the players we’ve brought in seem to have far more quality than those that have gone, but we did seem to go from controlled spending to last minute pay offs and panic.

I think we have to remember in what waters we are fishing
Look at Sheffield Utd
Recently they have brought in Bamford who was out of contract Philips from Man City and Joe Rothwell
All 3 will start and make them a better side and they are a side who are going nowhere this season
We have brought in players who may make us stronger at the back in midfield and out wide but it’s all relative.
Other clubs have done the same our problem was the summer window and bearing in mind we are playing catch up I would say this is a not good enough window to keep us up and that is ultimately what we are trying to achieve

We also know that sentiment doesn't always count for much in footy and everyone knows that. If you have already been targeting certain individuals then not so sure that's a panic exactly. If you continually analyse your situation and plan accordingly then how exactly is that turning taps off. You have always though to be open to other suggestions imho.

Maybe you don't. If people were offered an opportunity to.leave and said no TOUGH!!!

I think those 2 things are a bit overstated tbh. Edmundsson went to Serie A, can’t do a lot about that if that’s his preference.

The Phillips thing… meh, it’s a bit odd but could have been a number of things. For me the main thing is that we’ve got him off our books now which is what we wanted out of this window, so it’s a net positive for me.

I think it was pretty decent and the amount of cash we are throwing around is far, far in excess of anything we've seen. Credit to the board for financing it, given the situation. The squad is bloated with players who are not quite good enough for us, still...was hoping for a lot more outgoings. And the LB situation and Phillips is a weird one.

As it is, with only 17 games left and with the new players having to find their place in the team, I fear we have left it too late this season. You don't go from scoring nothing to battering teams in a week. However, doesn't stop me believing and all it takes is for some of them to fire and we're right back in the picture.
