I think we're seeing just how expensive life is in the Championship, especially when clubs get desperate or have money to throw around. As annoying as Kip is with his "bargain bucket" rubbish, I think we'll look back on the likes of Dembele, Helik and others and wonder how we managed to bring in Championship quality players for less than a million.

But at the same time we will see that Ciaron Brown, Tyler and others could go for fees far in excess of anything we have ever seen at this club.

We were talking about Mark Harris being worth £5m in August, and whilst that now looks ridiculous, it doesn't take much for players to raise their value significantly if you get the right buyer at the right time.

I agree with @ECYellow that we will likely see several players coming in for £1m or more and a player or two leaving that could well fund all of our purchases. We are playing with the big boys now (the real ones without a list) and look to be holding our own. Future Championship survival will need Championship spending, and that doesn't come cheap or easy.

We had a good finisher in Scarlett but people moaned he didn’t work hard enough and he wasn’t getting enough gane time so he got recalled , I don’t think our system or style of play lends itself to an out and out goal scorer and we have scored in every game under rowett apart from stoke away so I’m not convinced we are in desperate need of adding a goal scorer.
However I wouldn’t be against bringing in a big lump who can ruffle a few feathers

Wouldn’t hurt having someone that can score from a yard or two when the opportunity arises on multiple occasions a season, would it?

Here We Go....

Usually nearly deadline there will be few busy traffic and some domino's effect....if OU's recruitment team can take advantage here to get player that force to out because new player come.

It will be touch and go for us to stay up
We have been on a great run but we could equally go on another bad run
A decent goal scorer is the difference
We may need 2 wins to stay up.
Not sure where touch and go comes into it?
10 points is a very big gap at this stage of the season against a number of teams who are averaging 1 point or less per game.
You are suggesting that we may implode and other teams at the bottom will suddenly massively improve their ppg.
The perspective is that no team has ever been relegated from the Championship with the same number of points at this stage as we have.

Indeed, Luton and Derby have 27 points from 30 games, Plymouth 25 from 30.
Looking at the fixtures the bottom five teams have a lot of games between themselves,
Plymouth 4, Luton 4, Derby 4, Hull 3, Pompey 3.
It’s going to be an interesting final third of the season. Can we get something at Burnley, well for those who deride getting a point, I’d rip my arm off for a 0-0.

I will tell you where touch and go comes in.
Our next fixtures in February are
Burnley away
Derby away
Pompey home
WBA away

Can’t see us getting anything from Burnley and WBA.
Pompey and Derby will be scrapping like hell and those games could go either way but have a feeling we will come out with two draws.
The fixtures then get even more difficult including trips to Norwich Hull and Middlesboro
Making it essential we beat both Coventry and Watford at home

That’s what makes me nervous. It’s alright assuming you will beat teams when you’re in a good run of form, but confidence is key

Do we need a Championship-quality goalscoring striker to stay up? Probably not, given how far we are ahead of the curve right now.

Would we be a better side if we had a Championship-quality goalscoring striker? Undoubtedly.

Can we afford to buy a ready-baked Championship-quality goalscoring striker? No we can't - or at least not unless we sold Tyler and immediately reinvested all the proceeds. Without that, we could maybe extend to ~£2-2.5m, and in the present market that buys you Kyle Joseph or Sam Smith i.e. a decent (but not dominant) League One striker with no track record at this level.

What we can afford is an experienced Championship goalscorer that's a little past their peak, a Premier League youngster or an overseas lottery ticket.

And we've tried all of those routes already this season, and don't appear to have hit a bullseye, although it's early to cast final judgements on Bradshaw or Romney.

We could spend some more to roll the dice one more time, or we could wait for the summer. I suspect we'll do the latter.

Stoke have got Al Hamadi and he makes an immediate impact. You saw against us that Stoke got the ball into good wide positions but had nobody to finish them off.

Now what really concerns me is that we have splashed out £1.6 million on Romeny and in the two games he has been on the pitch I haven’t seen anything to say “wow there’s some player “ especially when BCFC were down to 10/9 men he should have been demanding the ball.

This is probably for a completely different thread but £1.6 million for a player that’s only here to boost the fan base in Indonesia is worrying. Are we sure Gary Rowett wanted this player here in the first place?

So you think the board are going to splash out £1.6 million to get likes and clicks in Indonesia?
Let’s give the lad a chance, he’s had two sub appearances!

We have 16 gamed and need 2 to 3 wins throwing in a few draws.
If we go down it would be a catastrophic dip in form.
We could not win any of our next 4 games and still stay up.
Somebody suggested that Rowett was our best signing. I tend to agree and trust him to stay us up with this group of players.
It seems that a small number don't trust him.

That’s an opinion, not, as you’ve written it, a fact.

Unless you know differently, you’re being very unfair and disrespectful to the player.

Ok maybe I’m being a little harsh but in their first games this season both Dembele and Placheta gave a few glimpses of what they can do.
I will reserve judgement until I’ve seen him start a game.
Hope I’m wrong about this by the way

Romeny created his own difficult chance and hit the crossbar with it.

I really do wonder if that's it for signings I think it depends on players out ,maybe 3 out then 1 surprise yet ,With Stan in he doesn't count in the 25 ,so how are the numbers looking? any help please .

Placheta got stuck until Rowatt came in.
Agree with that, you can see we move the ball out wide far more quickly. I love the way the ball is laid up to Vaulks who chips the ball into the space between the centre back and full back. Placheta with his pace causes havoc and the worst we get out of it is a throw in near the corner flag.

I trust Rowett, all I’m saying is that fortunes can turn. We couldn’t buy a win with Des after a promising start, then the wheels fell off.
Hope that doesn’t happen with Gary Rowett but in this league it could.
It’s the amount of points you have after 46 games that counts not 30 games
