Incomings:

CB
Defensive midfielder (someone with a bit of physical presence and ability to break up play would be my preferred type of midfielder for us to secure)
Wingers to replace Malcolm & Edwards (i'd not be putting a contract under his nose, unfortunately)
CF
Currie to come back in from Orient

Outgoings:

McGinty to be sold/released
Thorniley to be sold/loaned out
Edwards released
Malcolm sent back
Nelson loan terminated

Spot on.

I'd like to see Scott Mitchell use his connections to bring in Al-Hamadi on loan. On the CB front, Ronnie Edwards would be my shout. Ethan Erhahon from Lincoln City in at CDM. Wouldn't know where to begin with wingers. The January window is a tricky one at the best of times, let alone when you're trying to bring in quality attackers.

Any names at this point?

Would love a brutish yet classy mf - could we bid for Rodri (but only if fit)

Those 3 would be great signings.

I missed the Lincoln games last season, what kind of a player in Erahon?

The massive unknown in any transfer window is the availability of 'upgrades'. I'd swap out our whole squad if you could guarantee bringing in 25 better players!

On the balance of probability, of our 25-man squad I think we'll see:

Out:
Nelson back to Leicester
Ebiowei back to Palace
Edwards contract not renewed (cue him playing every minute between now and New Year, with a few MOTM performances thrown in!)
Thorniley available for loan or sale

If (and it’s a big ‘if’ at the best of times, let alone in January) we can bring in upgrades (or a replacement of the same standard when it comes to Nelson), I’d be pretty happy.

I don’t think we’ll see wholesale changes to a squad that was over-hauled in the Summer, with a number of permanent senior signings coming in. What we really need is players like Sibley, Vaulks, Phillips and Placheta to find their feet and start performing.

I think the only department that doesn't need strengthening is the keepers.

I think we've seen on several occasions that the majority of championship players are technically superior to ours as well as being bigger, stronger and faster.

We need more players with championship quality and greater athleticism. Easier said then done.

That is a very good list. I’m a hopeless romantic so if he has a good December and looks fit I would extend Edward’s contract

He's been a passenger for 14 months .Let's start taking recruitment & contracts seriously .
352 minutes playing time ............
I hear you but game changing wingers don’t grow on trees. Murphy had huge spells out injured. It’s a wildcard I know but if fit for December and looking good I would keep him for another six months. He is a player that can make a difference

He seems to have recovered from his hamstring injury but I think he was just unlucky with his ankle injury.I think Des will give him another 6 months I would be inclined to also.

We had a full 25 registered players, so can only get in as many as we get rid of.

Out: makes 4 spaces available
Nelson (returned already?)
Ebiowei (end loan)
Edwards (don't extend contract)
Thorniley (only outfield player of the 25 to not get any league minutes so far?)

On performances so far I don't think the following are good enough, but can't see us offloading:
Sibley
Placheta

After Saturday, both Dale and Goodwin have something to offer, so keep.

So only 4 available spots to fill

In:
Currie (or Bennett if fit in Jan)
CB
RW
LW

Hard to change a game from the physio room though isn’t it, Murphy spent a lot of time fit, just not selected.

I'd release him, we've seen how blunt we look when we have to change our game to one without attacking width.

It's frustrating that loanees of any age count towards the squad cap in the Championship.

Nelson is younger than Goodrham but counted because he was on loan, whereas Tyler didn't count.

9 - Hidde Ter Avest
10 - Jordan Thorniley

Is Edwards under contract until the start or end of Jan?

Seeing as he appears to be getting close to fitness, it would be good if we could at least wait until towards the end of Jan before having to make a decision.

If he’s contracted until the 31st Jan, and by then he’s made a few more appearances and crucially is still fit then I think we should try and keep him until the end of the season.

I'm pretty sure that most "half season" contracts run until 31st January but don't know in this case.

Big window next month, but we've gotta go shopping, as there's plenty we need.

We have defensive frailties, yes, but they're not doing TOO badly, all things considered, and with Bennett and Currie returning in January, one quality CB is all we really need.

A lot of our defensive problems though are due to not having an effective midfield lynchpin, so they are consistently left exposed and under siege. A quality defensive lynchpin, to do what Vaulks was supposed to do, would be very beneficial, otherwise Cam's gonna have to play there, which would be fine, he's very capable in that role, but then we'll lose his influence higher up the pitch.

In which case we'll need to bring in a box to box midfielder, if Cam's gonna play the quarterback role.

But what we REALLY need is attacking, creative players, both centrally and in wide areas. It's ABSOLUTELY VITAL if we are to do more than just try to stay in games, and actually aim to get on the front foot and take the game to the opposition, and WIN games.

We'll need to lose a bit of deadwood first, Nelson has unfortunately gone, Ebiowei can go, Thorniley could be at least loaned out somewhere, as could Goodwin if he's not gonna get more chances, and if Edwards doesn't prove his fitness this month, then for me, he's a goner as well.

And some will disagree, but Phillips, for all his quality, looks like his legs have completely gone at this level, a bit like Henry last season, so he's another who might be at risk for me.

But I'd like to see 5 signings:

Centre back
Midfield lynchpin
Attacking midfielder
Winger (capable of playing both sides)
Striker

A big ask to do all that in one month, I know, but if we're gonna stay up, in my opinion, that's what we need. AND THEY ALL NEED TO BE FULLY FIT, MATCH SHARP, AND READY TO HIT THE GROUND RUNNING!!

Not much to ask is it?

He'd play a couple of games then breakdown on February 1st

How does the squad cap work for games in January, is it temporarily put to the side, is it able to be changed at the signing/selling of a player?
There is no cap on how many players can be registered at once within the transfer window.
Although new players will need to be registered before a specific time to be eligible for each fixture, which I think is midday Friday to be eligible for that weekend's fixtures.

"Edwards signed a short-term deal with United back in September, and it’s understood that expires following the New Year’s Day trip to Millwall."
