On the same subject, am I right in thinking that Robinson gave Stuart Findlay a 4yr contract which still has over a year to run. Plus he cost us approx. the same fee as Goodwin.

4 year deal on £4,500 a week and cost £400,000 is what I heard. Kilmarnock got one hell of a deal when we signed Findlay for them.

At times I wonder if we have been too harsh on him, and whether there is still a player there.

Then I recall watching him (under zero opposition pressure) attempting to stroke the ball to his full back and instead casually passing the ball out for an opposition throw in.

Burnley would have pushed more to score if Helik doesnt put it in his own net, so I am not holding that against him. On top of that, it would only be 3 points, 2 against Bristol City, and 1 against Burnley.
Plus,
Goodness knows what happens to the ball if Helik doesn’t touch it. Quite likely turns up in the net anyway.

And even if the view is maintained that these moments cost us, his aggregate is at zero over his time here, based on the goal scored against Luton and the way he preoccupied two defenders to the point of sheer madness, allowing Greg Leigh to score.

Zero aggregate for a CB with very harsh points in the debit column - that’s not a player that you hope will make a good impact in future after a disappointing start. I’m sorry. It’s just not.

If we’re going to look for where players have “cost” us, please can we balance it with looking for where they have benefitted us too? It’s only fair.

I would also question the ‘foul’ he gave away against Bristol City considering they were going down if the wind blew past them a bit too quickly.
Fans would be questioning him if he hadn’t gone for the ball against Burnley so he can’t win. For me I think he has been a good signing and will only get better.

A little bit of me is suspicious about those passes, they were so bad you could only do them on purpose, almost as if you could get a loan deal back to near your home while still earning good money.

Fndlay's footballing career seems to have been a series of loans except the approx. £500k Kilmarnok received from Philadelphia. He is currently out injured after surgery on his ankle in November and is not expected to play until March at the earliest.

I think its four loans during his career at Kilmarnock, with, if he recovers from his injury in time to prove himself fit, another probable next season.

Although Kilmarnock appear to regularly involved, he has also been loaned out several times including Celtic and Newcastle. No club seem to keep him for a great length of time.

Just a quick reminder to those of you who haven't submitted some words to Cherwell District Council, the deadline for this is TOMORROW. For information and a list of email addresses to send to, see here...

He played for Celtic and Newcastle didn’t he? His 5 loan spells have been at Scottish clubs.
He is a lower level SPL/higher level Scottish championship player who can defend, but 4 clubs from a better standard of football have tried him higher up and because of his woeful passing it has failed and he ends up out on loan to a level he can play at.

His wages are much higher than that I'm afraid.
People forget that he got a pay rise when we got promoted, as well as many other players. Just because he’s been out on loan for most of his time here doesn’t change the fact that he’s our player. His contract is with us and includes bonuses.

We also had to pay Philadelphia an additional fee. Goodwin was the same - we paid Cheltenham an additional £100,000 after Wembley to take his fee to half a million.

Thats some contract, played as much a role in us getting promoted as any other player sunning themselves in Kilmarnock but profited from it.

I would love to know how much Kilmarnock are contributing towards a player who has played more seasons and games for them while contracted to us than he has here?

Goodwin came with a promotion bonus payment (the fact that he was not involved is irrelevant!) - I know for a fact that Cheltenham are still smirking about it now; they certainly knew they had “done” us at the time.

Yeah, one of the slightly odd things (but good for the fans, if not the players) about US sport is that the salaries are typically public knowledge:

So we know that Findlay was on $425k a year when he played for Philly.
(that's about £6,600 a week at today's exchange rates)

It's possible that we got him on a little less than that by giving him a four year contract, but I doubt it was a lot less and it might be even more (especially as the cost of living in Philly is less than it is in Oxford)

I hope Helik does turn out to be a good addition to the squad but thus far with the needless foul against against Bristol which led to an equlising goal and the own goal against Burnley, he has cost us 4 points in just 2 games.

There was 70 seconds between Heliks foul and Bristol City scoring. Why don't we go back a further 10 seconds to blame Dembele for a missed placed pass, or Leigh who was too far forward to retrieve that pass and left a huge gap behind him?

Or blame those who were not picking up Sykes on the edge of the box and were then blocking Cumming's view?

Against Burnley why not blame Placheta and/or Long for not closing down their player quicker, or Bradshaw who was pointing at Cullen as he ran through the middle but didn't go with him. Or Cam/Vaulks for not tracking the run.

Thats why this blame culture is really unhelpful. If you want to blame someone then you can nearly always find something that pins it to them in the build up to a goal if you go back far enough.

Whilst I agree with the overall principle of your post - surely you'd have to be a next order frothing-at-the-mouth nutter to be getting angry at our loan striker for not tracking an opposition midfielder back into our own area during a spell of open play?!?

Cam/Vaulks maybe, but I'm pretty confident that Bradshaw is not guilty for that one!

I agree, but then I like to think that I'm not quiet at the "frothing-at-the-mouth nutter" level. But I suspect that had this instead been Scarlett earlier in the season then not only would have been blamed by some, but they'd have also used it to "prove" that he had a bad attitude.

Bang on the money (if you pardon the pun) @tonyw

My understanding at the time was that his wages, when he joined us, were exactly what you've quoted. Further to that, Kilmarnock are paying a very small percentage of that for his services, with us picking up the vast majority of it, for him not to play for us.

And then we also have the additional money that @RyanioBirdio mentions above. People talk about the Jamie Hanson deal as one of our worst ever, but this one dwarfs it.

Very harsh to blame Helik for costing us 4 ponts ...... he has only cost us 3 points, 2 dropped against Bristol City and 1 dropped against Burnley.

Logic that makes him 100% responsible for the two goals conceded, which is ridiculous tbh.
