I’d put Burton about 5th in all time Oxford goalkeepers. I think longevity and nostalgia is clouding people’s opinions. Based on players making at least 50 appearances then Steve Hardwick was comfortably a superior keeper to Burton. I think Eastwood was too. Whitehead and Cumming would probably make the top 5 as well. Burton was the keeper when I first started watching Oxford so I have an obvious fondness for him, like loads of others, but taking the blinkers off and assessing it properly he’s never the best ever - in my opinion.

Whitehead is the best OUFC keeper I have seen. Hardwick was a good stopper as well, but lost his way in the top flight. I remember him being a bit on the short side? Although not Paul Reece short. Roy Burton is just an absolute legend, keeper when I started going to games in the early 80s.
