Expected, but no option exercised on Donley
Think we will regret this! As think he will be worth a fortune
Yes, I think both things may end up being true - long term Donley would be a good investment, but short term not the best use of limited funds.
Not sure we have any choice?Think we will regret this! As think he will be worth a fortune
Lankshear-12 goals. Golden boot and Young player of the yearI was very disappointed in him during his time here, certainly not worth 3-4m - I wish him well - to be honest the only good Jan transfer window was Konak and McDonnell who will be a good addition next season.
The others either didn’t perform, play much or didn’t make the squad so again another poor window.
Say what you mean, don't hold back.Donley is crap, good riddance.
Sometimes you need to make it happen look at Cardiff when relegated last yearNot sure we have any choice?
Would be amazed if we could afford him in L1
Birmingham managed it and signed Stanfield for 10+ millPossibly. But I'd imagine there's no way we can be spending that sort of money in League One, even if we wanted to. SCMP is going to be tough.
Er..... we are nowhere near a Birmingham.Birmingham managed it and signed Stanfield for 10+ mill
You can't just make £3m happen.Sometimes you need to make it happen look at Cardiff when relegated last year

Lankshear wasn’t signed in Jan which is what I was referring to in my comment.Lankshear-12 goals. Golden boot and Young player of the year
Chris Makosso and Davies, both of whom I’d have started over Helik.
Poor window?
Totally agree.Yes, I think both things may end up being true - long term Donley would be a good investment, but short term not the best use of limited funds.
I was referring to all our remaining loan signings, I think they all brought something to the club, and Makosso was a good signing, none of us know exactly why he didn’t get game time.Lankshear wasn’t signed in Jan which is what I was referring to in my comment.
Makosso played 6 games, so would be considered a poor signing (Davies again not Jan, and hardly played so clearly not a good signing otherwise they would of been playing)
I'm just a teeny bit wondering whether we will indeed sign him for that sort of figure.League One def his level, not quick enough or with the vision at this stage of his career for a struggling Champ team. The fact he couldn’t get into Stoke’s side between Aug and Dec tells us he’s prob a high end League One player at the moment. Prob on a par with Ruben, in that can produce moments of brilliance but wants too much time on the ball and to be given the platform on which to deliver, rather than an out and out match winner or difference maker whatever the situation.
I’d be happy if we signed him on a permanent, but anywhere north of 750k-1m is pure fantasy.

Exactly my point which is we need to make it happen. As someone who does deals daily unless one side says no way then their is a way!IF Donley had not been injured in his first game, been involved in double figure goal contributions, and kept us up - then £3.5m for a long term contract would have looked like great business.
It didn't happen, and his value will have dropped significantly.
But that doesn't mean that a deal isn't possible. He ripped League One up a couple of seasons ago and that is probably his level at this stage. Another season long loan, or a permanent deal with promotion clauses involved could still turn out to be huge for us.
He won't be the last 21 year old to have struggled to make the transition from PL Academy to the EFL before making a big impact a couple of years later.
Would also suggest Ruben did a lot more off the ball as well, both in terms of positionally and defensively pressing.Clever player but he’s too slow to execute things most of the time. So many attacks ended with him but he did put the effort in and the quality of passes coming forward was tragic, so no surprise he wasn’t particularly impactful. I’m surprised he’s so highly regarded by fans and yet Ruben was practically ushered out - very little between them imo, apart from age of course.
Not one I’ll lose sleep over. We’ve waited 2 seasons to see Goodrham play consistently in the 10, which may now finally happen.
Ruben was also better at nicking kid's scooters from front gardens when absolutely spannered (allegedly)Would also suggest Ruben did a lot more off the ball as well, both in terms of positionally and defensively pressing.
But Ruben was rubbish at it, he got identified instantly. Donley however? Got away completely undetected, no name in the local press for him, the perfect stealth crime.Ruben was also better at nicking kid's scooters from front gardens when absolutely spannered (allegedly)
Two really good options for us as no. 10. We would also need spending on a decent number 9 too. Then maybe loans on left and right wingers (assuming Emarku and Mills stay and start) and then we look really solid i think.I think a loan to a top League One team next season is the most likely outcome.
If he liked his time here and the club rated him, it wouldn’t surprise me to see him come back. I wouldn’t mind having him and Goodrham as our options for the 10 role
