I don't even think he's doing that badly.

It's just that he's not doing as well as he was last season (the stats bear that out too - last season he was up there with Trafford and Johannson, whereas (for nearly all metrics) he's 'mid-table' this season against his peers).

But it's a numbers game. We lack control over games and concede too many chances. That's only sustainable if your GK is on top of his game every week, as he was last season.

Hopefully he can get back there. But we certainly don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater - Jamie Cumming at 80% is still a very decent operator at this level.

Issues in front of him are far more concerning.

He hasn't looked so unbeatable this season, more just a regular goalie. And suddenly Brown and Helik aren't dominating and heading everything away, and other players are making silly mistakes - Cam has given away two goals alone. It's all just too fast for them.

Cumming is an excellent goalkeeper but not many clubs can afford a keeper to drop off in performance level - and we certainly can't. He's a key cog in our team and he cannot keep patting them out back in to play for a tap in. Price needs to get to work on him and get him back to the level that gives us a chance in matches. We don't score enough to even allow 30 yard screamers to be conceded, never mind goals as soft as Cumming has conceded recently. Yes, he can point to a defence that's not as solid as it can be but that defence can rightly look at its keeper for a bit more solidity too. Nowhere near the droppable level of performance but if this trend continues heading towards January then there might be a decision for Rowett & Co.

Like the rest of the squad, JC needs to reduce the silly lapses/mistakes. I think 3 or 4 times now he has patted the ball back into a dangerous area.

We can't afford these lapses anymore than we can afford sloppy misplaced passes, short back passes or failing to develop guilt edged opportunities in the last 3rd.

Everyone needs to step up, but I actually do not think ironing out these problems is insurmountable.

I'd say the issue with Cumming at the moment is pretty much symptomatic of the whole squad. I know it's a bit of a cliche, but it seems like all players have second season syndrome, whereby they aren't hitting the same levels as they did last season.

Cumming - 24/25 - player of the season contender, kept us in several games and earned us points. 25/26 - good keeper, made some decent saves, but not hit the same levels as last season.

Same applies to so many players, (just a few examples: Helik still a good defender but the goals have dried up. Greg Leigh, average left back, and again not contributing goals like last season. Ciaron Brown, albeit because of injury hasn't yet reached the performed to the same standard as last season.

To me it seems we are in a situation where individuals were over-performing last season and the team benefitted as a result. This season we are seeing players performing to their true level of ability, and unfortunately we are suffering as a result.

Im wondering if he has somehow inherited Ryan Clarke's teflon gloves?- as he seems of late to stuggle catching the ball, very little seems to stick
