Current Player #17 James Henry

I mentioned on another thread that with Mous and Henry in the side we picked up around 1.85 points per game, and I think 0.75 when either was missing. With Mous now out, Henry has an even more important role of bringing experience and a calmness to our game.

Keep Henry at the top of his game and Taylor will score plenty and give us a real chance of hitting the playoffs hard.

If he hadn't got himself injured he would be a serious candidate for player of the season.

Quite a few games to go. Maybe he still could be.

James Henry seems to try and find Matty Taylor with his crosses; or is it that he puts them into good places and Taylor happens to also go into those spaces?
They do have a good understanding. As good as Cadden was, I often thought he just looked to hit the box with his crosses which very often went way beyond the striker. Henry looks to play the ball where the striker wants it and this can mean that he may take an extra touch which allows the defend to cover. But when he gets it right the pairing is incredible. The last minute goal at Portsmouth was as good as any goal we've seen this season. Henry had absolutely no right to have hit such a good ball, and it was in pretty much the only place Taylor could score from.

If the full back is getting beyond Henry and laying it back then the first time, whipped in out swinger is the only real delivery he can make. Was it a deliberate tactic that he was hanging back rather than going beyond the full back ? Not sure but it’s a very difficult ball to defend if well executed and suits a predatory type striker like Taylor.

Unless there is an overlapping full back who is also occupying a marker as a result of their advanced position, Henry wouldn’t be able to take up such a position himself, or in turn put that sort of angled ball in. The attacking wing back is essential to this delivery. See England’s second goal v Sweden from the World Cup for a near carbon copy. Trippier advances and lays it back, Lingard angles the cross from deep, Alli times the forward movement to finish.

Henry has been playing that ball all season. Can either shoot or cross to the back post - the addition of Taylor is big in that regard. Relies on an attacking RB though
