Media Is it time to ban the Oxford Mail access to the Kassam and all staff?

Poor Malachi, seems he wrote the story but the editor decided on the headline.
 
This is a disgrace. It's not even a story based on quotes from Middleton or other FOSB numpties. It was the very brief bit at the end of PoF pd last week, where Kev and Kieran talked through the progress on the stadium project and that - like any development it was attracting a NIMBY campaign, which was probably higher profile in Oxford due to the demographic of parts of the city (we know that especially to be true with North Oxford).
Five days after that pod was released how does the Oxford Mail football reporter get the story he has, regardless of the disgraceful headline? He's written the quotes from the pod verbatim rather than explaining the story in his own words and not added any of the context that PoF had around their conversation.

Without doubt ban both the publication and the reporter - who appears to be a total tool who fits in perfectly with modern day OM.

I'd say it was a hachet job, but could at least understand that he was struggling to find any story in many weeks of pre-season across all of June this year and across all of many other years, but I'm struggling to think of any other paper / city / football team that wouldn't have the following stories this morning:
What Is Going On? - opinion piece asking the football club management for answers on what had caused the embargo, what was being done to fix it, a more detailed timeline, question on if it impacted the stadium and future of the club and expressing the concern of supporters and the city.
Details of PSF played over the weekend - maybe not a full report and appreciate it was Behind Closed Doors, but surely if he had a good relationship with the club he'd be able to report on score, scorers, details over who played, or at least 'plan was to give at least 45 mins to as many of the squad as possible as they step up preparations for new season ahead of trip to Spain'.
Launch of New Kit - filler piece that keeps fans / readers up to date and helps the club with a bit of marketing
Pre-Season Tour - filler piece that team / coaches etc. are off to Spain to help their prep for new season.

It's not a light news day / week and yet ALL we get in the printed edition (I don't and won't look at their website) is a hatchet job and NONE of the other stories.

It will have zero effect on our survival - or indeed on the Mail.
The Mail is a clickbait farm now, with staff incentivised on clicks not journalism. The writers don't choose headlines, they are from the "editor" who is also incentivised on clicks. They have zero "stance" on anything other than driving traffic, and unfortunately these days "controversy" does that. The writers also have targets re number of articles, hence the trawling of social media/verbatim use of press releases from local groups/repeated presence of certain "personalities" like Clarkson/Watson/Middleton.
How much the Mail thinks about OUFC can be summed up by them employing a recent graduate part-time in the sports role.
So, banning them - what would it achieve other than bad publicity?

The kid is a gobshite.

I think the club have turned the taps off already when it comes to giving the OxfordFail access to players and giving them news first.

For avoidance of doubt that was a bitchy comment from me rather than anyone alluding in to any ITK knowledge of the poor kid!
 
I love a boycott and pitchforks me, but really not fussed and voted no.

The Oxford Mail no longer has a duty to offer anything but what makes their owners money and that is clicks.

Read it or not, there really is enough Oxford United content available you don't need it. Social Media and podcasts offer far more breaking and informative articles. It is what it is.

Personally, some kind of campaign or anger, is wasted. Just don't read it.

The guy doing it is trying his hardest and may become scratchy, but seriously, since he started he's been called XY and Z. He's not the editor, he's doesn't own the business. He's trying to pay his rent or mortgage.

You're creating noise about the Oxford Mail, they don't have any power anymore, its one of hundreds of ways of finding news out. An old demographic likes to buy it and that is depreciating yearly.

Its like Talk Sport, you genuinely would be stupid to think the arguments made on that radio, aren't done to drive listens and attention. Those Presenters are told what to say to get people ringing in.

Worth spending your resources elsewhere. There are far more critical Oxford United things to worry about.
 
Always cautious when it comes to things like banning journalists, etc. It could be the start of a dangerous slippery slope. No one's forcing anyone to read it but there are still some that do, so let them have their fun. In the grand scheme of things, the OM is pretty insignificant and its sales are declining year on year. It will eventually (probably quite soon) die a natural death. Until then, let it be
 
freedom of speech is vitally important it will come as no surprise to those who see my posts on the political boards that as a free speech absolutist i would not support any banning at all.
