Filip Krastev on the bench tonight for Bulgaria, currently 1-3 down against Türkiye.

edit: now 1-4, 3 goals in 7 mins for Türkiye. No subs used yet by Bulgaria.

Serbia 0 Albania 1, 70 mins. If Serbia don't win then an England win on Tuesday away to Latvia will see them qualify.

Was he ok after?
Yeah but he took another couple of hefty challenges and bounced back. Got booked a bit unfortunately really. Iraqis were rolling around like skittles in a bowling alley last 20 mins after going 1 up. Ref added on 11 mins and played 13 but to be fair Iraq wasted 7 of those 13 minutes.

The referee was the worst I have ever seen and I just hope we can go back and bomb Iraq again just for their play acting. They certainly have weapons of mass distraction.

The kluivert experiment hasn’t gone well

Does this mean that the Indonesian charge to the world cup is now officially over?
Yes, it does. That's good news for us because Romeny faces less terrorist football (the Iraqis make Getafe look like angels).

I think the last time I saw a player singled out for such obvious rough treatment every time he was on the ball was Pele in Escape To Victory.

If Iraq qualify for the World Cup Finals Trump has already banned all Iraqi nationals from travelling to the country. Iraqi fans could attend games in Canada or Mexico which would embarrass the hell out of the President and lead to a nice little dilemma for FIFA when organising the venues for the group stage.

FIFA President Infantino is already a Trump sycophant so wouldn't make a blind bit of difference.

I’ve only been watching it since around 60mins, but NI giving it a go against the Germans.

Quite an atmosphere as well!

Northern Ireland have matched the Germans all the way, with no help from the referee.

Spencer is filling in at CB now they’ve chucked Dan Ballard up front to chase the game. I’ve been really impressed with his performance. He had a challenging first half but stood up well and has done great in the second.

Iceland get a draw with France. Both Wales and Northern Ireland lose, so will need to win there remaining two games to get into the playoffs by the look of it.

Cape Verde qualified today, another first timer, and I am guessing a place most of us will need to Wikipedia to pretend we know anything about.

Northern Ireland always give it a go, young committed and always a good watch.

Lopes will be first Shamrock Rovers player to play in a World Cup for Cape Verde

Strictly speaking, no.

The playoffs are made up of 16 teams - the 12 group runners up, and the 4 highest group winners from the previous Nations League cycle that didn't get in otherwise.

Wales won their Nations League group and are the 7th highest ranked Nations League group winners. But the top six (Spain, Germany, Portugal, France, England & Norway) are all going to finish in the top two of their WC qualifying groups. So Wales are absolutely nailed on a spot in the playoffs.

Northern Ireland are the 12th ranked Nations League group winner, and they will probably get one of the four Nations League spots as well, barring some very weird goings on.

So the only thing they are both really playing for now is seeding (because the teams that come through the Nations League automatically end up in Pot 4, whereas the 12 group runner ups go in Pots 1-3 based on World Ranking). They'll each likely get a much easier draw for those playoff games in March (and might have a chance to host them) if they come second in their respective groups.

Not complicated at all then, I keep forgetting about the nations league places. Wouldn’t mind a two of Scotland/Wales/Northern Ireland clash to make the World Cup, would make for a good watch on TV at least.

The only thing that keeps me going through the international breaks is working out all the bizarre permutations of who's going to get into the World Cup!

UEFA nowhere near as complex (or as crooked) as the Asian Football Confederation!

I’ve actually seen some good games featuring the ‘other’ UK teams this break - a lot more interesting and unpredictable than England
