International News Immigration

It's what happens when the media obsesses with GDP growth. They do it to con you you are better off when GDP growth per capita stagnats and more of the wealth generated by the country falls into fewer and fewer people's hands.
Absolutely aggree we don't need infinite growth it's not good for the planet either. Yet how many people say when people don't prioritise it like over immigration or brexit (remember the saying people didn't vote to be poorer). I am happy to pay for net zero because some thing like the planet are more important than gdp growth.

They are only obsessed because the new government have made it clear that without growth, there plan to regenerate the UK will fail .
So far it’s failing and 2025 is not looking much better .

Don't worry, crippling new National Insurance rules come in soon. Businesses are already shedding staff because of it.

We will be plunged into a recession.

The future of our country depends on Jenny at Ofcom having all the answers.

Just putting this out there from todays Business & Trade Committee.........

"Eleanor Lyons, the UK Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner, says there is concern that the UK has the highest number of victims of modern slavery.

Lyons says a "fragmented labour market" means workers are more at risk, and enforcement bodies are under-resourced, so they cannot catch lower-level violations before they escalate into modern slavery.

There is also fragmentation across government regarding whose responsibility it is to tackle slavery, adds Lyons."

Would that "fragmented labour market" not be less fragmented WITHOUT a ready supply of folk into the grey/black economy?

Still as most of them are Doctors, skilled technicians etc etc....

Thanks. When it says β€œhighest number of victims” do you know what it is in relation to? i.e is it the highest in Europe? Genuine question

I would surmise so, wasn`t specified on the feed nor in other reporting. Have to wait for the full blurb.......... the executive from Shein got a proper roasting.

UK should consider letting IS members return, terror watchdog says https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c8d9plerrrqo

Just something else to boil my p155.

Or have a very prolonged legal challenge to prevent it happening............ about 60+ years should do it.

Of course the liberal folk will say "forgive & forget" and that people can "change"................ fudge `em. Leave them in their chosen nirvana to rot.

I`ll leave it to the experts who say it "shows an estimated range of 800,000 to 1.2 million unauthorised migrants in the UK,"

https://migrationobservatory.ox.ac.uk/resources/briefings/unauthorised-migration-in-the-uk/

Considering these people can`t claim benefits, can`t access social housing, cannot get a job, can`t open a bank account, or have a driving licence in the UK then WTF are they doing? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ (Clue - black economy, semi-slavery, food delivery riders, etc etc)

Sustainable it is not.

I think everyone agrees immigration is too high.

What lapsed under the Tory Government was the vetting of these people when they arrived. That process has such a backlog that any Government will struggle. Labour are starting to send some of these people back and are doing better than the Conservatives at this, though not by much.
But if anyone believes Reform can end this straight away think again. They are like Ian Middleton claiming OUFC can stay at the Kassam.

Not sure what the answer is other than to hire more immigration officers to send these people back to the country of origin.
Fair enough if they are from war torn countries like Syria, but something needs to happen because this is unsustainable.

But Labour and the Conservatives do have the answers? The same two parties that have caused this and been in power while it happened? Why should people believe them when they say they will fix what they caused?

Heard an interesting stat about the skilled workers visas the other day, a single butcher sponsored 800 plus skilled butchers to come into this country, pretty certain it wasn't Bernard Matthews so he must have one hell of a big shop.

Its being abused from all angles not just people arriving on boats, its become a business that people are getting rich off of while the country and its citizens suffer from it.

So, if 800 UK citizens had trained as butchers (or not left the profession), there wouldn't be a need, right?

Labour and the Conservatives have done such a good job managing immigration over the last 25 years, it would be utter madness to let another party with fresh ideas have a go...

Yeah TBF they are haemorrhaging one MP.
When starting from such a low base (in every sense), they really don't have the luxury of losing 20% of their elected contingent. Their biggest problem is Farage, but he'll never admit to that and as things stand he'd rather burn the "party" to the ground than step aside, such is his narcissism.

Mind you, maybe he will decide to step aside and let someone like . . . Lee Anderson . . . . become leader :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I disagree - I don't think it really matters how many MPs they have during this Parliament. How they perform in the next GE is all that really matters. I can't really think of a single downside to them losing an MP whose conduct has been below par.

I would imagine their polling would be much, much lower if Farage wasn't involved. The fact that you're so keen for him to step aside says it all. He's still the big threat to the main parties.
