International News Immigration

I have always been historically very pro migrant/asylum seeker but the system is being absolutely rinsed and I have first hand experience.

My partner is Kenyan. Her brother (Kenyan) paid us a visit and ended up liking the UK so took a job in a car wash. When the net started to close in, he caught a flight to Dublin and bizarrely, claimed asylum. He’s Kenyan btw.

The life he has now is pretty special, each weekend he goes on a different expedition and learns new life skills, accommodation and an allowance, was given a new mobile phone etc.

Very easy to see how someone struggling as a native might feel it’s a bit unfair. Genuinely asylum seekers have my complete sympathy and need support, but the system is just being played now.

Wrapped in my Stars and Stripes, it’s quaint that you think those are big numbers!
Whatever you think of the numbers, they are too much. Especially when we are funding the hotels they stay in.

Our own are on the street freezing this winter but these people can come on a boat and get popped straight into a hotel. It just isn’t right.

You’re not wrong, but no need to bring immigrants into it. Why can’t Britain look after its own poor and destitute?
It is important to compare the two, because obviously we can look after our own poor and destitute. Government(s) has always had unlimited funds for when and what it chooses.

I'm not really sure of the point you're making here. Why compare the two?

The infrastructure is clearly there to shelter everyone who has no housing given the amount of unused buildings.

Precisely. There's plenty of political will/money when it suits them (Labour/Tory).

those people that have arrived generally all male ,will cost us 58 million pounds a year ,as a country we are breaking down ,NHS ,Schools ,jobs etc and you think that's small.

People are really going to lose their s**t when they find out how much the government have spent on storing unusable PPE since 2020🤯

Not to mention who has trousered all that money for the useless kit.

Not to mention how much extra we're spending on it's disposal, along with all those out of date COVID test kits.

Not to mention all the furlough fraud that will probably never be recovered

If you want to get really pissed off about billions being wasted by the government on utterly pointless stuff that could be much better put to use to look after the poor and vulnerable in society, then there's much worse things to get bent out of shape about.

But I guess this is more about what is really driving the "outrage"🤷‍♂️

Well I’m afraid they are getting the warmth of a roof over their heads and a bed and being fed for the night, so yes there is a need to bring immigrants into it when they are getting more than our own who have perhaps fallen on hard times.

That can’t be right, you either do it for everyone in need or you don’t offer it to just the people coming on boats.

It is a disgrace when you think about it.

Every government around the world over spent billions on ppe it was a licence to print money, for scams ,dodgy deals ,would labour have done it any different? but what is going on with the boats is a complete disaster for this country. Why do they come here ? has a good who lives in Italy says we are a soft touch.

I think the disgrace is simply that Britain can’t take care of its poor and destitute.

A bad day on the southern US border sees 10,000 people crossing (that we know about).

That is a genuine problem.

3-500 people a day is something that should easily be manageable. Competent government and you should be able to review that number, return those that don’t qualify for asylum and process those that do without taking forever and without breaking the bank.

The fact that Britain seemingly can’t is a gross failure of resourcing and management

Why do we need more people, I live in Stoke and we are having a nightmare with these people, and that is happening up and down this country.

So a small partof Shelton then? The sh1t going on in Bentilee, Fegg Hayes, Meir, Chell etc isn’t immigrants. Nor are they the boy racers on the A34, in Sandyford or numerous other places

Not really immigrants though are they? It’s a reconquesta of a stolen land, was these peoples to begin with. You WASPs will have to move to Greenland.

“Quaint”is so Olde English .
Anyways, you seem to have settled into the mindset of the majority of “ Americans” who are so inward looking and don’t let facts get in the way of a quick retort.( I merely reported the numbers )
You also forget the US mantra that everything is “ bigger “ in the USA .
“We” can’t forget, because Americans always remind us 😉

I don’t think anyone would disagree with that .

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cz7q5j24qzjo yet again more evidence that the government were warned of the dangers of mass immigration. Yet chose to ignore it. With the eu expansion of mid 2000s. The British government's of all colours seem to care little of the existing residents of our island.
It's what happens when the media obsesses with GDP growth. They do it to con you you are better off when GDP growth per capita stagnats and more of the wealth generated by the country falls into fewer and fewer people's hands.

There's a book called 'The Strange Death of Europe: Immigration, Identity, Islam' by the journalist Douglas Murray, which explores that very point in great detail.

It is a scary read, but worth it.

Is that the same Douglas Murray who is the associate editor The Spectator and has written for The Times, The Telegraph and The Daily Mail? Must be balanced.

Yes, he's an established journalist.

I expect that most political journalists are "unbalanced", one way or another. It goes with the territory of being interested in politics.

Anyway, if you get round to reading it I'd enjoy hearing your feedback.
