International News Immigration

Yep, which is a shame. If there was no taxi, they wouldn’t get on those boats. No more drownings, no more exploitation.
Even so we should be looking to any which way to disincentivise the passengers, and disrupt the mini industry that sees them come over.
Unfortunately a lot of illegals are already here. We can’t accommodate them and it’s not right they are allowed the run of this country.
Stopping the boats, and removing the illegals won’t solve everything but will make a significant positive difference to this country.
Obviously there needs to be safe routes for asylum seekers to prevent any more deaths in the channel. If only the idiots hadn't voted for Brexit none of this would be a problem

You couldn`t make it up..............................

"BBC Verify has found more than 1,500 grocery and convenience stores, 150 taxi operators, 100 barber shops, and dozens of car washes and vape shops are still on the register and able to sponsor people to apply for visas."

I saw this when scrolling at breakfast, wondered how long it would take you to post it :ROFLMAO:

Jesus! Is there no end to the crap Tory legislation, rules and regulations etc that Labour has to correct? No wonder a Parliament term is for 5 years.

Footnote - it hasn`t been "corrected" in fact........... "BBC Verify found 60 businesses on the register that had been fined for employing illegal workers between April 2024 and December 2025. They had been fined a combined £2.5m"

You know that government with a massive majority that promised "change" and are still, seemingly, blaming the previous government more than 2 years later..... ;)

You had 14 years and you royally fucked it up. Gonna take a bit longer to clear up the almighty mess you made.

At least it's going in the right direction.

Which it never did prior to July 2024🙂

Managed what John. To reduce immigration from over 900,000 a year to less than 150,000 a year?

By jove, you're right, John👏👏👏
You mean these figures..................?

Where the article also says..............

"Thursday's data showed a 49% fall in immigration for work and a decrease of 17% in those seeking to study. The number of dependents from both categories also dropped sharply.
In 2023, the Conservative government raised the minimum salary threshold for foreign skilled workers and made it harder for workers and students to bring their families with them."

Blaming the Tories cuts both ways............... 🤷‍♂️

You mean...the problem they created in the first place?

Started a bin fire.

Poured petrol on it.

Sprinkled it with water.

Shrugged shoulders.

Fucked off (or were booted out, more accurately).

Cuts both ways might be close to appropriate, had they not created the massive problem to begin with.

So if the laws are extremely illiberal you're happy to follow them because you're liberal. Have I got that right?
Yes homosexuality is banned in Iran. If a gay person choose to go there and get persecuted that is their fault likewise going to places like China and campaigning for democracy. Their fault and they should get no help. Following the law in a country you visit no matter how unpalletable it is is just sensible.

I am liberal but being liberal isn't the same as being excused from consequences.

230 over on one dinghy today. Incredible number coming over.
Not much of a grip on this, Mr Burnham.

According to recent Home Office figures, 13,007 arrivals have been recorded this year. This is 45% lower than the number recorded by this time last year and down 18% on the same period in 2024.

Can we blame the weather . . .

Or something . . . 🤷‍♂️

Maybe it's too hot for them to make the crossing . . . yeah, go with that. That sounds plausible;)

Also loving the frequent arguments on social meeja where people are trying to claim that the number of crossings are down, but the boats are much bigger, so the actual number of people coming over is still higher🤦‍♂️🤯

Statistical snippets.............. source, published Thursday, 28 May, 2026: https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-10590/

Arrivals fell in 2023, before rising again to around 41,000 in 2025.

According to the Home Office, 39,000 individuals crossed the English Channel in small boats in the year ending March 2026.

This figure represents a slight decrease from 41,000 arrivals in 2025 but remains significantly higher than pre-2020 levels

The weather remains our best defence.................as we seem averse to trying anything else.

Just today's example - albeit he came in on the back of a lorry, not a boat:

Apparently you're a paid Russian agent if this bothers you. The British thing to do is to grin and bear it.
And apparently, you're a rapist and/or Iranian agent if you arrive in the UK on a rubber boat🤷‍♂️🤣

This is your typical Reform/Restore voter listening to the radio...

Certainly reminds me of a few people on this thread 🤔🤔

If you continue to allow in tens of thousands of illegal young men who are from a very different culture it is likely you will import a large number of men with a dim view of women and their rights.

As a bonus one of the Brighton rapists was a convicted murderer in Egypt.

All doctors & engineers seeking a better life of course...................

Stop noticing! There's no link!

Russian agent behaviour.

Please remind us how we've ended up having tens of thousands of asylum seekers rocking up in rubber boats?

That's right . . . it's the two things you've given repeated and vociferous support to ever since this forum has been in existence.

The Tories and Brexit

Well done👏

Not really your proudest moment, is it?

Nobody thinks they are all Doctors and Engineers - It's just another lazy right wing trope and I thought you might be a a bit more savvy than that🤷‍♂️ (I'm sure you know exactly what it is really)
Nobody is excusing the criminal actions of a minuscule number of those who arrive by these means.
Nobody thinks people arriving by these means is OK, either.

It's a shame that the same level of shock isn't leveled against ALL such crimes which are equally repugnant, regardless of what the perpetrator looks like, or where they come from. Why is that, I wonder?
