Just watched the C5 series, Really intersted to know the thoughts of others. Mine are, the profile of a serial abuser.
 
Isn’t it just one programme? Anyway, I started watching it on catch-up on Wednesday, stopped it to take a phone call, and didn’t bother to resume. I found it rather prurient and felt I knew as much about the case as I wanted to.
 
I kept wondering why Doc Martin was reading the news.
 
For what it's worth, I agree that there was a prurient quality about the way this was presented. Partly, because quite typically it presents as a headline but not a story. It's “good- ish” TV ratings fodder, but unlike “the reckoning” or the interview with Prince Andrew (previous title) I'm not sure what it offers.

It presents a man with titanium narcissism, who then presents himself as a victim, and from a forensic psychiatric perspective, it may well be the case that there was a serious mental health disorder underpinning his behaviour.

These are explanations, but not excuses. But narcissistic personality disorder, not depression, quite often will manifest in the abuse of children, and others
 
He deserved prison time.
The BBC directors who sanctioned his pay off should have been personally accountable for that terrible error of judgement.

You're very comfortable calling someone a nonce considering it was investigated and he wasn't charged. Do you have additional information, or just a low threshold for believing things?

Jimmy Savile was never arrested or charged.

Huw Edwards - the Met found no evidence of criminal conduct............ until he pleaded guilty.

Most people know that the bar for prosecution in these cases is set high and it is even more difficult to prosecute as time passes and survivors wish to move on with their lives.

Influential people taking advantage of others.......... within the BBC.
 
There must be more to this than a historical case that didn’t get to court because of a lack of evidence……

Without a charge he is effectively innocent and therefore the BBC would have no grounds to sack him.

Unless it was in his contract that he had to declare any arrests to his employer, or that he's a contractor and technically not a BBC employee so wasn't covered by the same employment rights as Hew, who was initially suspended.

Even the local radio part of the corporation that provides excellent coverage of local football teams? I wonder how many Oxford fans don't pay the licence but steal from them by listening to match day coverage, the dub etc.

I have seen some suggestion that it is more to do with failure to disclose the matter, which would be grounds for dismissal.

I get that but his position would be I did nothing wrong and didn’t tell you I was being investigated for something I didn’t do. Does that not leave the bbc on a sticky wicket ( unless this was in his contract at the time )

Easy to slate the BBC which is what Farahe and Trump do.
I am.not condoning at all what happened re Edwards/ Mills, but the BBC have to maintain higher standards than the press and other TV channels.
To a certain extent the BBC go overboard trying to be neutral. In an age where there is fake news all over the place together with conspiracy theories, ( plus GM News), at least you have more chance of getting a balanced view o..the BBC than most media.

I'm guessing (which is always dangerous), but I would imagine all prospective BBC employees (particularly those in high profile roles) must disclose any previous investigations or allegations made against them. In which case, if he didn't disclose the previous investigation, that could be grounds for dismissal.
 
Finally saw this tonight and my overall view was that aside from some very good acting from the two lead characters, the whole thing just felt rushed, both in terms of storytelling and of the writing.

Little Boy Blue or White House Farm this was not
