Championship Hull v Coventry tonight

Coventry are far more skilful and organised though.

But Coventry have lost plenty of duels in midfield tonight but agree they themselves look a threat when they attack.
Ellis Simms is out of sorts upfront though whilst Haji Wright looks very dangerous wide left.

Of course I want Cov.to win but they need to improve for me or they will get beat.

Coventry are a way better team going forwards, but Hull missed the biggest sitter.

Van Ewijk is ridiculously good, and I've thought that every time I've seen him play this season - but I guess if you're paying more than £3m for a fullback, he ought to be.

Agree though that the centre of midfield is where Coventry are a little weaker though......Grimes is decent enough, but he's a bit of a Will Vaulks-type. They need a Cam equivalent to play alongside him.

Ben Sheaf is not a regular starter in Coventry’s midfield.

He’s just the kind of midfielder we need in my view. Good age, tall and good passing range. One year left on his contract.

I don't know what would be better for us overall. They lose it keeps another team further behind us or they win and it keeps playoff chasing teams playing harder for longer against teams below us.

1-1

Sloppy defending from Cov. They could be 3 up.

I’d be happy with a draw. Coventry have got Plymouth and Luton to play, so we want them to be going for it. Equally, it keeps WBA in the race for the last play off spot, and they’ve got Derby, Cardiff and Luton.

The tighter it is up there better I think!

Yep, and we really, really want West Brom to beat Coventry on Friday (they play eachother).

Then they will be level on points with three to go - and both going for it hammers and tongs against all the teams looking to chase us down!

Middlesbrough play Plymouth at home on Friday too and 3 points for them will put them right in the play off race on 63 points. Overall I think a draw tonight was good as Coventry still have work to do especially when Coventry have West Brom and Middlesbrough to play in their last 4.

Only watched the last 15 minutes of the second half - but also good to hear the commentator say "if Hull don't win, the bottom six are going to be separated by only six points", and know that we weren't included in that lot, looking down upon them all!

(also, boy has Jack Rudoni improved since he was at the Wombles. Genuinely top quality Championship performer now. Could see him playing in the Premier League)

A draw is good but Hull losing would've been by far preferable as they are within 3pts of us now and have a superior goal difference. Having said that though, it's all about the teams below that matter more and even a 3pt gap over Hull is huge at this stage regardless. They travel to Swansea next which is by no means easy and they have no consistency whatsoever so I wouldn't expect them to go above us regardless of the Leeds result Friday night.

They're inconsistent, but I think they're a better side than the bottom four, and 12th placed Swansea is the hardest game they have left.

I don't see Hull going down - so much better to keep Coventry and West Brom motivated when they play their combined five games against Derby, Cardiff, Luton & Plymouth. If those two avoid defeat in those games, then we can probably book our holidays and start planning for next season even if we don't get another point!

I’m not sure I really agree with this idea that Hull picking up points tonight was somehow to be hoped for.

They’re now just one result away from going above us. They wouldn’t have been if they had lost. That’s much more important than the idea of Coventry trying harder against Luton and Plymouth for me…

I’ve noticed for a while now that people seem desperate for those bottom two sides to lose no matter who they play, and would even rather sides just below us beat them in order to ‘keep them adrift’. I don’t agree with this at all.

Plymouth and Luton are 8 points behind us. If they manage to overtake us, let’s face it, we’re getting relegated. We’re not finishing in the bottom two. There. I said it. What we might still do, though, is finish third from bottom, and to avoid that we’ve got to keep one of Cardiff, Derby, Hull, Portsmouth or Stoke below us. And so if one of those sides play Plymouth or Luton? I want the latter to win, 6-0 for all I care.
