Technically we are more than halfway (24 played out of 46) and it’s not been a vintage few months. But, in the interests, of finding the positives - who gets your nod, or an honourable mention?

Even though I love him, Browny hasn’t really kicked on from his injury. At my fav from end of last season, Helik, seems to be faltering.
Has last year’s runner-up, Jamie Cumming, done enough again? Seems to keep bailing us out …
Or, is it too obvious: BDK. The ma who can pull the strings.
Stan Mills - the only one with a bit of real pace and flair?

Would be Spencer for me prior to his injury. Thought he was outstanding, but I think having missed a chunk, it can’t really be him. Would be like picking Nelson last year.

I don’t think you can look beyond BDK. Plays every game with a proper mentality, technically our best player by a street and bad days have been rare.

Brannagan. Worthy(ish) mentions for Mills and Currie and Spencer before his injury. BDK for his durability, early season form and reasonable consistency since. Cumming done OK too but really struggling for any others. Maybe Placheta if there was an award for moments in matches.

Cam, BDK & Cumming. They feel like literally the only candidates. And even they have some sizeable asterisks against them.

Cumming has given away multiple goals with his poor decision making from crosses/dead balls. Brannagan has missed chunks through injury. BDK has been run into the ground as almost our only genuine Championship-quality midfielder/attacker.

Really thinking about candidates for this makes you realise how low on quality our squad actually looks this season…

I think I would probably give it BDK he's played constantly he hasn't been afforded a break because the recruitment was so shocking and he generally turns out 7/10 performances

Findlay, without a doubt.

If it has to be someone in yellow then Cumming, with an honourable mention to Brown for the strong way he returned from injury in his first few games back.

It may sound churlish, but none of them have performed with anywhere near the consistency to warrant the title.

Brown, Helik, Cumming - nowhere near the levels of last season.

Brannagan - aside from the enforced time out, he also dropped two clangers (the one on the opening day could yet prove to be critical).

Shemmy - some great moments, but also goes missing for long periods.

BDK - most consistent of the regular starters, but his (largely) woeful set piece delivery is a massive black mark. He's gone from maybe 1 in 3 being decent, to (at best) 1 in 5. That's not tiredness - set pieces give you the luxury of an opportunity to get the ball into a dangerous area under no pressure, in your own time. There is no excuse for being so wasteful with them.

On the plus side, all of the above (and maybe Spencer, Currie, Mills) have had solid enough half seasons to put them all with a good chance of a (deserved) Player Of The Season - if we appoint a new tactically astute manager who can drag us to safety.

Hopefully it'll be a hard decision in May - but for the right reasons.

But a very poor first touch and very little end product...

Easy to criticise everyone and I don’t disagree performance levels have dropped, but there are some that haven’t been dragged down to the inconsistent (or frankly awful) level of others despite a totally imbalanced and knackered squad.

Brannagan is number one in this respect, Brown has come in from a fairly nasty injury and been expected to contribute immediately (and has), Cumming remains a very solid keeper for this division, Currie has stepped up very well at 23 and his being dropped for Leigh recently was disastrous.

Brannagan’s commitment and performance levels when clearly getting increasingly unfit through being overplayed, should not be overlooked just because the club thought to sign four flimsy no 10s and go without any capable midfield cover. POTY so far for me.

For the first time last night I thought we should consider an alternative to Cumming. He was hugely disappointing.

For consistency this season, Jack Currie for me.

Cumming and Brown both need new boots for Christmas (which sadly appears like it's come too late) as neither can see to find a teammate on a consistent basis, which despite their defensive talents badly undermines them at this level.

Currie has done well for his first season in the team, especially at this level and yeah, like most the others would probably be Brannagan largely because he's missed the recent troubles. BDK with an honourable mention but a shame he's looking so knackered and feeling the pressure of carrying the midfield right now.

Mills. Scored the decisive goals in 40% of our wins, no major howlers that I can think of (sorry Bran/JC), shown a top attitude (normally wouldn’t count for much but when we are scraping the barrel).

BDK second purely for being an ever present in the middle.
I’d add that I think Mills also appears to genuinely care about the club in its loosest sense. I think he’s probably only one of a handful of players that does.
