I think I remember the club wanting to bring the average age of the squad down too. Although the embargo has helped that by having to put academy players in the squad 😅
 
Greg has been a great player for us. I wouldn't mind him staying as we're in League One. However, realistically he's our 3rd choice LB. Although currently he's 2nd choice with Rooksen being injured. But even if Currie gets injured I can see Ramsey playing Spencer at LB with Kioso at RB. So Greg could even be a 4th choice LB!

He's 31. He's only got one more longish deal in him. If he wishes to get that deal elsewhere then I certainly don't blame him and wish him well.
 
You do feel that Greg might be the one to go, unless someone is going to meet BdK's release clause (seems unlikely), we're going to let BdK go for less money (not a good precedent to set), we let Stan go before Jan (runs counter to what the manager's said) or we get silly money for someone like McDonnell.

He's had a rough time of it through no fault of his own and deserves to be playing regular football somewhere. As much as I wouldn't want him to leave because he gives us something different and is a great character to have around the club, I would understand it.

Am I right in thinking Leigh has a year left on his contract? It's all conjecture of course but you'd think it would be more about reducing the wage bill and freeing up a squad place in an area we need more cover rather than getting a sizeable transfer fee.

I still think we need him to cover for injuries, so even if he wants to play more I don't think we can let him go just yet.

Whilst Spencer can cover at LB, Kioso or Long would need to feature at RB. And if one of Helik or Brown is unavailable, then Long is required to cover at CB. It's getting into KR deck chair shuffling territory of having to move around 2-3 players because 1 is unavailable. If Roosken was fit I would say we could just about let him go, but without that depth we're two injuries away from an availability crisis.

That would be the same situation with or with Greg Leigh here. Just look at the keeper situation now if Cumming doesn't recover in time for the next game.
 
We definitely need him, and surely the same arguments about what would happen to squad morale if we voluntarily sold a player apply as much to him as they do to Mills?

I assume it’s possible that we’ve delayed announcing Leigh’s departure and he’s actually the one that’s made space for our new signing?

I’d obviously hope that’s not the case and would love to see Leigh back in yellow, but I wouldn’t begrudge him a move.

I'm not sure how it would work with the embargo but would we be able to pay Leigh up so he became a free agent like we did with Moore?

This does look like a manager who isn't yet attuned to lower league football. Dropping Helik, bombing Leigh out of the 18. Not blaming Ramsey, he can't help where he's come from but he needs to learn quick or this might be a longer season than we envisaged. Last night was a Des, Rowett, Bloomfield Championship type performance - bits of football here and there, bit lightweight in the middle, desperate defending, decent goalkeeping and absolutely non existent in attack. Ramsey's hands are, of course, tied to an extent but I'm not yet seeing anything that offers even a glimmer of a clue as to how he might eventually play.
