The way it came across to me was that Ramsey a) Didn't want to go in to too much detail and BDK, and Nathan asked about them both in the same question so AR steered clear altogether and b) AR wanted to focus on the players who were there and had earned a us a decent result.

A lot was made of Leigh's absence on The Dub. Maybe they know more than they're saying.

If the speculation is based purely on his missing out on the matchday squad, I'm not sure it's all that odd Spencer was chosen above him, when Spencer's probably in slightly better condition (after Leigh's dental work), hasn't done much wrong (which might not be the message he'd take from being left at home) and is strong on the left (in my view).

You're always leaving out one fullback. Kioso got a chance on Saturday. Spencer moved to the bench and had a good little cameo - on the left. That selection worked a treat. And besides, who'd want to tell either of our Northern Irish defenders they'd not made the cut?

Hopefully this conversation's just a bit of end of window jitters and no more.

Not after the last match. He said it was down to 'selection' that he wasn't in the squad.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Leigh is allowed to leave right at the end of this iwindow, we already know that Ramsey has praised him for his attitude, yet despite that he’s not getting in the matchday squad.

Ramsey wasn’t quite so sure footed as he usually is in his response to Nathan’s question post match on Saturday and it did make me wonder if Leigh might be on his way.

Add to that he wasn’t registered as a player for second half of last season, and for whatever reason couldn’t get a loan move. Players want to play and I’m sure Leigh is no exception. He doesn’t appear to have rocked the boat, in fact the opposite, so perhaps the goodwill towards him allows him to leave despite the club’s clear message about retaining the squad.

Then you’ve got the squad balance and the number of players who can play leftback who are ahead of Leigh. Roosken is still to come back also. Currently Leigh can’t make the squad let alone the first team.

Of course if he is allowed to leave what is the fall out from that, especially the players who have been told they can’t leave in this window?

Then again I may be reading far too much into it and his absence is solely down to dental work.

You forgot to mention that he’s a decent player at this level so it would be a mistake to let him go

I don’t want to see him go, but I can see why he might be interested in heading off. Personally, I think the way we handled him last season was poor. I hope he stays, I can see him making a significant impact, if he doesn’t, I don’t begrudge a move and wish we’d seen a bit more of him at times over the last 6-12 months.

If we signed a player who hasn't played more than 23 minutes of competitive football since 3rd February I am pretty sure most fans would not be happy about it. He might still be ok at this level but the lack of game time and his age goes against him so it is probably in everyone's interests to part ways.

It does I agree, but I still think he’s one worth keeping at this present time

He is picking up a decent wage and not going to get the game time and it's not exactly a time to just be pissing money down the drain.

If there is one player I think deserves a move away it is Leigh. He wasn't involved for much of last season and (despite our situation) is not even making the bench at the moment. By all accounts he has been professional, keeping himself fit etc. if he is thought of as the third choice left back, then let him go and further his career elsewhere.

BTW, this isn't because I don't rate him. I do, and think he has been drastically underused.

How much cover do we have for Brannagan or McDonnell? Helik and Brown? Harris gets injured and then it’s just GOD. When we need to cut the wages and budget can we really justify having 3 players for 1 position?

I love Greg Leigh. You’d be some kind of idiot not to. But he probably falls in the Will Vaulks category of a wage we could let go of as we work to trim excesses on the books. He’s not going to play a tonne of minutes and is probably 3rd or 4th at best across any position he’d be considered for. I do like him as a rescue club so I’m happy either way.

Sibley and Spencer are decent options to support Currie while we wait for Roosken to come back and especially with the re-emergence of Kioso, we’re looking ok at full back.
