Worth a thread of it`s own as it`s mostly former folk using their "influence".

Boris appears to be distancing himself....

Sunak seems ahead of the game releasing contacts from Cameron.

Is this really unusual or just how politics, irrespective of rosette colour, "works" ?

I think it is how politics now work sadly. Read being Matt Hancock's neighbour/friend to get Covid contracts but if you are a company already with expertise in the field you can't get through to those who make the decisions.

This one does seem to particularly stink. Lex Greensill was 'employed' as an advisor in #10 with a #10 business card/email address but BoJo claims to know nothing bout him. It also turns out that Greensill employed a senior civil servant before he left a related role, and somehow him carrying on working in that related role was signed off by government.
Also interesting that in Cameron's 'crackdown' on lobbying they specifically left out the type of lobbying that he then undertook (despite it being recommended it be included), thus allowing him to say it wasn't against the rules.
You do wonder how toxic Greensill were though that despite being close, and being given a number of preferential government contracts, that they left them swing in the wind.

They're throwing Cameron under the bus in an attempt to satisfy the baying masses hoping the gaze will not fall on them. Giving the eel like qualities they've already shown they will probably get away with it again. Get ready to doff caps again peasants.

what they are actually aiming to do is throw the former civil servant under the bus - the enquiry that has been set up is very limited in scope, won't be looking at the lobbying. They can then use this to push their civil service "reforms" further.

How politics works now? I suspect it has always had an element of this to a lesser or greater extent unfortunately. Ironically the 12th April was 5yrs to the day that Dennis Skinner got chucked out of parliament for calling David Cameron 'Dodgy Dave'!

Isn't this supposed to be where you excuse it all, saying "they're all like that, that's what they do, just suck it up folks, nothing new here"?

Why would he back him? No longer member of parliament. Unlike Priti " somethins goin on here and I'm not havin it". Also backed Cressida Dick...d who should have been fired out after the De Menenez disaster. It all stinks, it really does.

Not all the time no, it`s just how politics "works" the level of scale is the variable.
Still wasn`t enough to save Greensill and once the ££££`s stop flowing the questions start being asked.

i see the guy doing the inquiry (such as it is) is the same one (Nigel Boardman) who looked into government ministers handing PPE contracts to their mates/donors and found nothing untoward...

Yep, nothing dodgy about that at all, nope nothing at all.

And all this over the Lassie music.

No need for a cover up. If they don’t like the outcome they’ll just reject the result or have the enquiry carried out again until it says what they want it to say.

Politics might well have always been corrupt and dirty, someone is always at it, but the last decade has been a death spiral.

When will we ever rid the country of croneyvirus?
