It’s a tough one.

The first half of his time here so far, was a clear improvement on what was on display prior to his arrival. He’s made us more organised and difficult to beat, whereas under Des we looked a disorganised mess, and teams were beating us with ease.

However, the 2nd half of his time here has been a steady decline back to the awful standard we’d become accustomed to under Des, and Rowett is making some very strange decisions and mistakes that have cost us a number of points in recent games.

But he’s inherited a squad with a lot of weaknesses in it, both in terms of quality and physicality, and a number of players who are physically and technically nowhere near Championship standard.

For that reason it’s hard to judge whether he’d be the right man moving forward or not, as it’s largely not his squad, although he has made us more difficult to beat, even if it hasn’t been pretty.

Overall, I’ve enjoyed the improvement in results, as a result of making us more organised, but I’ve not enjoyed his style of play at any point, if I’m honest.

Maybe that’s down to the players at his disposal, rather than what his preferred style of play would be, if he had better players to work with.

It could be that he’s simply doing the best he can with what he’s got, and with better players at his disposal, the more chance he’d have to implement his preferred style of play, and the better the standard of play will be.

With that in mind, if we stay up, I’d be inclined to give him an entire summer transfer window, to see what he can do with a number of new additions to the squad.

Then see where we are at Xmas, and reevaluate then.

Can’t remember what Rowetts contract length is. But what do we think should happen next season if we stay up or drop down?

If i have missed any options let me know.

Perhaps you should offer your opinion? After all, it was you that started the thread.

I voted to keep him regardless.

Who’d of thought sparking a debate on a forum would be “ridiculous “.

Fans are always looking into the past and future.

It’s not a negative question!

I’m going to be asking the same question at the end of the season to see the do.

If we end up getting relegated then it has to be a new manager for me as I can't see his style getting us out of league one.

If we stay up then it all depends on how he intends on setting up his team next season as to wether I would want him to stay on. I understand the ultimate goal is to stay up this season and that's why the team is set up to be hard to beat but I couldn't watch this style every week as it's damn right boring.

It's a shame it never worked out for Des and he had a team that had so many injuries in key areas and also players not performing to their full potential. Des was one of our own , passionate and had a real connection with the fans and took us on the best journey I've ever witnessed in 26 years of supporting this club.

Rowett is a proven championship manager but alot of other clubs fans he has managed all said we would be bored to death and it seems to be going that way.

Award for the most ridiculous thread this season. Whether we stay up (which we probably will) or go down, Rowett obviously stays. I was a big Des fan, but under him, we were absolutely going to be relegated, I'm afraid.Rowett reminds me of a more personable Chris Wilder. He's organised a pretty average (for this level) bunch of players vv quickly. The football may be functional but so what? Survival this season is all that matters. He's got a very solid track record in the Championship, and you can see why

This is the biggest question for me, that people seem to avoid.
We have had 2 transfer windows now since last season and at the time of both people said it was a good window but then once the window is closed it becomes a bad window.

In general I think the recruitment team haven't made too many mistakes but have when it comes to getting in a different type of striker to Bradshaw and Harris and not recalling Currie.

I will preface this by saying I don’t think we’ll go down, but;

I’m surprised that so many people would apparently be happy to keep GR if we did go down - let’s imagine a (very unlikely) scenario where we don’t win another game until the end of the season and go down with a whimper - are people really saying they’d be perfectly happy with the manager staying on for next season IF that happened?!

It won’t, but if it did he’d almost certainly be sacked, and if he wasn’t then I think a lot of fans would be very unhappy.

Anyway, the most likely scenario is we stay up, GR is given a summer transfer window to mould the squad to his liking and we look to move on to a mid-table side rather than one who battle against the drop.

An utterly ridiculous and pointless thread.
I think the thread is fine, watching yesterday was horrendous, it,s been really poor for a few games now, yesterday I found myself thinking I would rather go down with all guys blazing and being entertained rather than the turgid stuff atm, we are way to negative, obviously staying up is paramount but let,s not kid ourselves, the football is bloody awful.

Did you expect any thing else once Gary Rowett was appointed? He is known for this style of football. His teams will never play free flowing, expansive football. Instead we will have a solid defense and be hard to beat and some games we will set up to not lose rather than go out to win (Derby and Burnley being the 2 obvious ones).

I think as an Oxford fan for far to many years we have in the main played attractive attacking football, I get being hard to beat but yes I am surprised that we weren't more on the front foot yesterday, I thought they were awful defensively, but regardless I was giving validation to the thread, some fans will want to watch more attacking football and this isn,t, GR has done a great job particularly with the quality at his disposal but personally I want to see exciting football, we are in the entertainment business after all, I am hoping he plays a more attacking game at WBA next week, I think we can get a positive result if we do.

His job is to keep us in this division. Could be his job next season and the one after is to keep us in this division. Nothing more than that.

Now if that is the case expect some dour cagey football. Fans of other clubs have warned of this. Without him we would be stranded 8 or 9 points adrift of safety now.

Would rather be here than the oblivion of L1.
