International News Germany starting to crumble?

Not defeatist, crass and uninformed.

How can anyone compare the rise of National Socialism in Germany with Brexit?

If you had lived in Germany you might have a grasp on how important this is to most, if not the vast majority of Germans.

You have to know how much modern Germany fears the return of far right politics to understand this.

I too wanted not to get involved in another thread involving politics but, as someone who spent many years living and working in Germany, I know all too well how important this is to Germany.

You have a real habit of completely misunderstanding my posts, Manorlounger.

My question/post was nothing about the relative importance of Brexit and the rise of national socialism.
Indeed, I never mentioned Germany in my post - and specifically quoted the section of StockholmOx's post that referenced all European countries. I never mentioned National Socialism either.

It was a - fairly depressed - observation that the quality of the national debate on all issues in the "post-truth" modern social media era is basically in the gutter.
Now I don't know for a fact that this is the case in Germany, or most other European nations. They may still be bastions of rational, reasoned argument. I hope that's true.
I do know that it's the case in the UK and the US.

Any thoughts on that?

None at all.

But then again, I have got far more rewarding subjects to ponder.
