Current Player Thread Gatlin O'Donkor

Sensible level loan for O Donkor, where he will get games at a level he can find his feet at. He did well at Barnet in the national league so now they have been promoted and he is a bit older maybe offer him to them.
 
It's going to be a very quiet year for Gatlin. I was really surprised that he didn't have a loan move in January. Perhaps they feel he will benefit more from training with Championship level players than game time with a lower league team?

I think sadly he will be off loaded in the summer ,if we go down we need better strikers, It's like being a tour golf pro that never holes 6 footers you are permanently behind the game.
 
Unfortunately he had no sort of football brain to go with his “raw strength”. As Werthers says, he needs to drop down to a level which suits his ability.
 
I had assumed he is injured as hasn't featured for the U21s for ages either.

Josh Johnson another one of that group who looks like going a whole season without any football.

Yeah, not sure I buy this. Even though it's almost universally accepted.

He played a lot of football, very early on (22/23) and perhaps that was a big ask - but I don't really understand how, three seasons on, that would prevent him carving out a career in the Football League?

He's the same age as Alex Matos.

He seems to be injured.. a lot.
Not sure where that falls into mismanaging him?
Did well at Rovers last season in L1, started a few friendlies and seems to have been injured pretty much since then?

Why? Not being picky but what have you seen from him that suggests he should be in front of Bradshaw?

He struggled but I don’t think he should have been there. Did well at Barnet, the obvious move would have been a one level step up to league two, at least till January but we always seem to be in a hurry with him, so sent him to a team that struggled in league one.

It’s probably time in the summer for him to move on and going to a level where he did well isn’t a bad idea, he needs to play. Don’t think it’s the end of your aspirations to play in the football league if you do that, plenty have come back up, better than going, sitting on the bench and being in the same position as now a year or two from now.

This happens a lot in football. Youth teams are often full of people who are essentially in men's bodies but at children's age groups.

I gave up football at 14 because I simply couldn't compete physically 🤣 I got called a luxury player by a coach aged 13 🤣

He had a point to be fair.
 
He's very typical of a boy who did well in Academy football because he was physically powerful. There are lots of players like him in the Academy system. But as others catch up, that's all he's left with. Not particularly skilful and no pace. He's ok, but he'll have a L2/NL career.

I said that he did OK. There were a number of positive posts from Rovers supporters and on their games at times last season.
So for a young forward in a poor team, it seemed to me that he did OK.

I think he will eventually carve out a decent career as a National League/ League two journeyman. You'd make a big amount of money doing that these days.

I never thought Tyrone Marsh would make it as a pro and he had a respectable career in the national league and Gatlin impressed me for us more than Tyrone Marsh ever did.

Marsh looked like a lost lamb when I saw him play for us, saw him play a decade later for Boreham Wood and he was a physical specimen. #fairplaytothelad
