Although the recruitment has been terrible, Gary simply has not utilised the players well enough at his disposal. Dropping players who are doing well, playing ineffective ones who continue to be ineffective and now tinkering with tactics he’s admitted previous that he got wrong and simply don’t work. I would not trust him with the keys in January as we may get lumbered with 5 more Tom Bradshaws.

There are managers who would get far more out of his team. The injuries have screwed us in key positions but even then, it’s not been good enough.
Recruitment hasn't been terrible. This is imo a reasonable summary of the permanent players we have signed since promotion. Apologies if I've missed any out...Category #1...pretty/very good, and probable sell on value.. Cummings, Helik, Currie, Spencer, BdK, Placheta, Mills...#2...done a job but not quite up to Championship...Vaulks, Prelec. Dembele...#3..hopeless, and appear a complete waste of money...Bradshaw, Romney...so that's 12 signings with two complete misfires, one of whom almost certainly wasn't recommended by the recruitment team. Given our budget, that's a decent hit rate. But most of the rest of the squad are L1 standard. It's all about the money. Our two best signings (BdK and Spencer) each cost about £1.5M-2.0M. If we had bought another 4-5 players of that calibre, I would be very confident we would be mid table. But we haven't, so we aren't. This squad is very, very low on the quality necessary for this level. Rowett isn't perfect, but he's not suddenly become useless. This squad isn't strong enough and unless that changes, we're going down. No matter who is in charge.

Prelec isn’t a perm and you’ve missed El Miz and Sibley. Possibly others, I can’t remember. Phillips was also a permanent signing. Ter Avest (I think he’s pretty decent).

I included Prelec because we have a perm option. Ah- yes, I thought I'd forgotten a few. El Miz definitely a #2, very good L1 player, not quite up toChampionship...Ter Avest isn't too bad, decent squad player. Phillips has been a waste of money imo...has been constantly injured, and although you can see he's been a very decent player, his legs have long gone. Sibley is hopeless- he'll struggle to get a L1 club. Point remains the same though- 16 signings, four of them duds, one of whom (Romeny) wasn't selected by the recruitment team. That's not too bad a hit rate...it's certainly not 'hopeless' as some posters have claimed...

Yes he's been good at keeping teams up in the past, but the game evolves, and managers like him always get left behind, because they're not good enough to evolve with it.

Football at this level is just not played the way he sets his sides up to play anymore, so if this is how he's gonna continue to set his teams up to play, I'll be amazed if he's managing in the Championship for much longer after we (hopefully) give him his marching orders...
I don’t know, Arteta has copied Rowett from last season by introducing the long ball approach and set pieces to his Arsenal side. Also look at how many clubs are now copying Rowett by using the long throw approach…

Marselino, Kioso and Ingram were also signed after promotion.

Yes but they don’t throw it from 40 yards when we are closer to the half way line than the box & they have someone who can actually perform a long throw with some pace on it.

We will beat Southampton ( Mark Harris Hat Trick)
Does this mean the team will win the game and Marris will have a role of magician as half-time entertainer? I do hope so.

I think we will lose to Southampton. I hope we don’t by the way.

Hopefully work has already been done so a replacement for Rowett is a quick process.

I do however hope Rowett signs no NDAs on departure & once he’s sacked is open & honest about the shambles of a pre season & the shambles of budget changes mid summer and the knock on it had on the summer transfer window.

We can’t let the idiots above him get away with it for a second summer in a row.

While I agree that it wouldn’t have been my preferred starting line up it isn’t as though those left on the bench having been giving Rowett a decision to make - they’ve all been generally next to useless for a month or two. Not one benched player, not one, can claim to be unlucky at being left out, bar maybe Lankshear considering who got the nod ahead of him. This has blighted our season and given Rowett a massive headache hence the constant chopping and changing. You’ll have heard countless managers say players have to take their chances when they come along and this current crop is amongst the worst in recent memory I can think of for stringing two performances together - both collectively and individually.
His overall management of the players have got to the stage where no players are now effective.

There’s definitely a middle ground though. It wouldn’t have made sense to hire Rowett last year and then bring in a load of diminutive technical players in January because the data said they were good possession-based players. Recruitment needs to be based on the way the man who picks the team each week plays the game and thinks is the best way of us staying up. Data provides the framework, but I’d like to think the manager has a big say in who actually comes in the door.
That's a fair point. I think from now on we need to hire a coach that fits the desired system (or at least is adaptable enough not to want impose their "own way" on us), rather than the other way around.

I’d hardly call it a tirade. I was just giving a reason why some may have reevaluated. On the previous vote I think I said give him the next few games to see how we fared.

I’ve been fairly clear that I’m not convinced that we have the depth of quality in the squad to stay up this season. I’m also not convinced that a new manager will get more out of them. However, I’m happy to roll that dice because Rowett has now failed to deliver what I had expected him to deliver.

Another reason for being more open to a replacement is Rowett openly saying post match that he’s run out of ideas. That’s not a football fan being fickle, that’s readjusting a stance based on new information/evidence.

I suspect several fans have changed their stance because the facts have now changed. It’s a dynamic situation. If we win the next three games and follow that up with early, quality signings in Jan you’ll probably see people change their mind again.

As I said in my previous reply, I’m not bothered about the brand of football. I want us to be picking up points consistently that secures our status as a Championship club.

What he said ⬆️ in better words than I could.

Well according to Rowett he’s not spoken to them about what budget there is so that suggests 1 of 2 things.

1. There’s not much room for manoeuvre.

2. They don’t trust him for the window ahead & will pull the trigger if we lose the next two.

They should pull it now and get in who they want.
It also suggests that Williams and Ferguson are running this club badly
Des Buckingham was left to floubder
Manning saw the light very quickly and Rowett after keeping us up was let down this summer
Talks should have been underway between the Management team months ago about who needs to go and who we can bring in
Rowett may not get what he wants but to say in the interview after the game that he has no idea what will be available in January is scandalous from the top
As I’ve said before Williams should be the first out of the door before any players and unless Ferguson can spend more time here, he should be replaced

Our majority owner is Indonesian and I doubt very much there is any lack of accountability-Thohir was over in person recently but in international business much like podcasts these days are done remotely.

Fergus is based in Thailand though, no?

It seemed inevitable considering the run of form and his recent comments - we'll soon find out if rolling the dice was the right tactic or not!

Thanks Gary for keeping us up and delivering a few memorable games for us along the way!
