Well I have missed the last 2 at home now because I cannot be arsed to watch that rubbish. OK I missed the Ipswich game and we played well but yesterday was absolutely awful. And yes these teams are there for the taking much more than they were last season.

I am seriously thinking of missing the next 2 because I have better things to do at Christmas than drag myself out of the house for 6 hours watching that. If they cannot be arsed why should I ?

We don’t get nasty enough. We are top of the fair play league. We don’t target poor defenders in opposing teams.

We could be bottom of the national league and I will still be dragging myself away from the family on Boxing Day, those 6 hours are a godsend.

With that attitude you can’t really support a small football club though? We are never going to be a part of the elite.
That’s not true though because we have been there before. Other small clubs have been there too and there are a couple there even now. I just find it a hard watch at the moment especially when we have two or three players who could be utilised but have not been used because of some sort of falling out of favour. The club needs to deal with it and get the manager to deliver or get rid.

Been where?

The Loungers will be in attendance. Almost tradition now, turkey sarnies in the car park before the game, and then home to warm up with a selection of grazing food & vino. The game itself, well, that will be less enjoyable, I fear.

This is a case of making a false assumption about something you think I've said, then argue against that assumption.

I have no agenda. Barely posted, and have generally been very supportive of Rowett before. I've spoken to him on a number of occasions (his Dad was in the prison service and we have a mutual friend who knew Gary when he was growing up). I'm sad enough to subscribe to the whole OUTV package and watch all the content including pre and post match comments from Rowett. I listen to WATG on my way into work after a game. So I think I have a pretty good idea of who Gary is. And I know for him this is just a job. Nothing more, nothing less.

Its also a job that he is being given a decent wage (much higher that Des or Manning were on) and was supported with getting Mark Sale in too. The club have also given him free reign to review training facilities and logistics to support the team.

He's not here as a favour to the club, so whilst I agree that he should be treated with respect (especially for his successes last season) I don't think that we should patronise him either by not talking about his performance as Head Coach of Oxford United.

And in that regard, and only that regard, I think that Rowett is falling short of what we need and what we would have wanted from him this season. If he stays and turns things around, he will have my full support. If he goes, I will wish him well and hope that we bring in better.

My only agenda is Oxford United.

And I think you’ve done precisely the same, Scotchers. I didn’t mention his emotion towards the job, his wages or the allowances we’ve made for him.

Your post made out that he’d rather be on the Sky sofa than here. If that were true, then that’s where he’d be. The factors above have no bearing on that (with the exception of wages perhaps). I thought that was an unfair dig on someone who has been thoroughly professional since he has been here.

No Frankie and bennies beforehand?

I’m seated fairly close to Rowett and this is blatantly untrue to say he’s hiding in the dug out - that’s just not the case. Why make rubbish like this up just to suit an agenda ? Yesterday he was having a running battle with the fourth official, was berating the referee and bellowing instructions incessantly to the likes of Vaulks and Lankshear. At home games I don’t see any opposition managers outdo Rowett in this respect. Sale was out for large parts too yesterday, Hackett a bit less so but he made his presence felt towards the officials.
We saw this too. At one point yesterday, hubby wondered who was shouting at the team and then realised it was Rowett. He was also frantically waving the team forward.

I think people just see what they want to see, rather than actually looking.

Exactly that Rowett was extremely animated yesterday and is generally pretty balanced dependent upon what the situation needs. As is said here people just see what they want to see.

Of all the things to chastise Rowett over, being animated during games isn’t one. From my seat in the East Stand he often appears to be patrolling the technical area, speaking to the fourth official, instructing players and so on. In fact, it’s probably one of the reasons why he ended up in the stands the other day having picked up several warnings.

Anyway, I’ve come to the rather pessimistic conclusion that we’ll be in L1 next season, regardless of whether it’s Rowett or someone else in charge. To that extent, I don’t mind if he’s shown the door now or not. I suspect we’ll see an average (at best) Jan transfer window and we’ll continue on our trajectory of a point here and there and the odd win. We’ll be told it’s all part of the five year plan, not to worry and what a competitive budget we’ve had. Probably finish up with around 42 points alongside Pompey.

Very negative mindset I know, I certainly hope I’m wrong and I certainly will be making the most of every game this Championship season has to offer!

Anyway, on to Saturday and a fun day out in London!!

You are living your best life @Manorlounger . Perfect Boxing Day that

Boxing Day 1949 I went to see my first match. Headington Utd v Chelmsford City, it was a 2-0 win. Supported the club for what will be 76 yrs, missed alot due to living away and time in the Navy.
My wife died 14 yrs ago, i moved to Carterton from near Bath. Bought season tickets for myself, Daughter, Granddaughter in the family stand, over the past year at the young age of 86 i have had to cut down on the longer away trips as i now suffer with hip arthritis making it difficult to get to some games due to the coaches having to park away from the grounds on arrival.
I have made a lot of friends in that time and thank them for their support.
Disappointed to hear that some are not going to even home games due to the current situation.
When i eventually join my wife in Wolvercote Cemetery on the stone will be the words, OUFC FOREVER.

I’m inclined to agree. I thought yesterday was typical, bringing in Harris and Bradshaw against one of the best teams in the league. We will struggle to attract the right players if we are 22nd in the table

Love that, I think my wife will have grumpy old sod etched onto mine lol, my current financial position means I get to very few games but OUFC forever, you bet!

This has got to be one of the best ever posts on this forum (and its previous incarnations).

Do you remember much about that first Boxing Day game?

Sadly no. I was brought up in Oxford during the war with my Mother and Grandparents, we went back to our family home in Brentford just a hundred yards away from Griffin Park.
Every holiday it was back off to Oxford and getting my Uncle to take me to a game. Loved the great days at the Manor in later years, the great cup games, the time in the 1st Division, such a shame our fans of today missed them.
Have to give a smile when they sing We Are The Left Side / Right Side London Road, if only they knew what it really meant to us in those days

As I’ve said previously, if we keep Rowett, with the current squad I think we go down, if we sack Rowett then I think we still go down with the current squad. The club need to get this transfer window right if we are to stay up. That includes out goings as well as incomings.

Controversially though, I see the stadium as the bigger picture for our club and I believe once we are in there we will see the club push on properly. Until then, and this is the controversial thing, as long as we stay between top half league 1 and lower championship until then I’ll be generally quite happy. I think it is important to look at the bigger picture sometimes rather than the hear and now.

The only problem with that is it’s not as simple as you make it sound to just jump between the two divisions, look at Plymouth. We will have huge player turnover in the summer, while that’s an opportunity it’s also risky.
