Current Player Thread Frankie Kent

I hope Frankie Kent makes a recovery sooner than expected. A friend of mine had an ACL cruciate go and it’s an appalling injury.
I am glad the club are sticking by him and it sends out the right and decent message to all those players who regard Oxford as a great club to play for.
 
I don't even think this is an Oxford United thing. In an industry where injuries are common, you look out for players and honour their contracts.

It's exceptionally rare for players and clubs not to be insured, so this isn't even a financial situation. But long term injuries can also affect people emotionally, and we don't know his home situation having only just moved to the club and the area.

So I hope that they club is doing all that they can to support him in every way he needs, and I'm sure that we are.

This isn't a saintly attitude, its just basic humanity that I would expect from everyone. In fact, if you don't have this view you must be a dick.

Yes and I am not saying don't honour the contract, that is basic. What I'm saying is that with the ongoing financial and registration complexities if there is a way we can legally extricate ourselves from the deal - given he will miss an entire season and be touching 32 when he's next available - then why not ? I don't know why fans are so protective of players, Frankie Kent or any other player would not give a flying f*** about Oxford United if they received a more lucrative offer elsewhere when fit.

What I'm saying is true though, isn't it ? You wouldn't see Frankie Kent for dust if another club offered him £750 a week more next summer. He's be banging his agents door down to get out of caring, moral, ethical Oxford United. Any fan gullible enough - you're probably one in fairness - not to agree with that is as delusional as they come.

Why would anyone pander to a footballer, absolutely ridiculous. They are just about the least loyal employees out there, why should any club bend over backwards to help a footballer when you know that show of faith will not be repaid. I'll make a bit of an exception for Brannagan - after his eye problem he thanked the club for looking after him but we weren't stupid, it was blatantly obvious why. Not only did you know what you were getting performance wise but we were also protecting his value, he's repaid it in bucket loads but he is unquestionably the exception to the rule. Mills was extremely grateful to us for retaining an interest in him and his recovery following his injury - that looks like being repaid by him jumping ship to Preston or wherever, albeit for a sizeable fee. There are countless examples going the other way though, too many to list. Frankie Kent offers nothing in the future so, if there is a loophole, why not take advantage of it and give a player a dose of his own medicine ?
 
May as well chill on the whole Frankie Kent thing. He's unlucky to pick up an ACL injury in training, I've done the same thing myself. Freak challenge and off to the NOC. Anyway, we'll pick up the tab and then claim back through insurers one would assume, even in my amateur days 20 years ago, players had cheap insurance if they were going to end off having to be off work for a period of time.

We'll probably never see him kick a ball for Oxford and that will be that. Far bigger things to worry about than the fact we're honouring a legally binding contract that we have with a player unfortunate enough to injure himself in the way he did. Particularly when ACL injuries can have an unfortunate knack of recurring or creating other issues depending on the stability thereafter.

Do you believe there is no value in keeping your word? Is honour unimportant?

What values do you hold that aren't about self interest?
 
I think he means by giving the player a dose of his own medicine that means giving the player a good kicking when he is down.
Maybe this comment will be visited in a years time with some regret if the reverse proves to be true.

I am sure you would agree that the more astute businesses out there think very carefully about how they deal with employees due to both internal and external employees. Believe me when a business gets a reputation it never recovers and even more so in football without the people you don’t have a business.

What makes me chuckle is that you talk like a footballer acts any differently to any other worker, they typically go wherever values them the most while offering similar or greater benefits. The only difference between them and a typical worker in any other industry actually works against them, they're doing it against a much shorter clock than your average worker.

I think you've got this one wrong. It's a shame he's injured, for both us and him, but talk of cancelling contracts is inhuman.
