Let’s just forget the Championship for now and concentrate on L1. Hopefully we’ve learnt our lesson of this daft thinking about recruiting players for leagues you aren’t in. It unquestionably cost us our Championship status and if we aren’t careful we will miss the opportunity of brining in good L1 players because we’re worried about their capabilities in the Championship. What Kent is or isn’t capable of in the Championship is completely irrelevant - if we win promotion he will probably be at Bromley or Barnet next season but who cares.

In fairness to Wilder he built sides for the moment rather than the future. Players like Clist, Tonkin, Bulman etc were brought in to do one job and one job only - get us back in the football league. That needs to be the mindset in this window and if we’re back in the second tier next season I won’t care one bit it where any of this seasons squad end up next season - cross that bridge next summer.

I think you have responded to what you *think* I wrote rather than what I actually did. I didn't say it was necessarily a bad idea to sign this bloke - but that we don't want a transfer window consisting of mostly this type of player. It's all very well just concentrating on the league you are in (rather than the one you hope to get to) but as we found last time, that can really bite you if you do go up - because you have got a whole load of L1-standard players contracted to you who are now on Championship wages. You can't get rid of them (because nobody else will pay them that money) so you end up loaning them out and subsidising that loan. That costs money and therefore reduces the quality of players you can afford for the playing squad.

While you might think it 'daft' to be at least *considering* the shape of the squad should we be promoted, I think I would call it 'planning'!

Our issue was that when we went up we signed a whole load of players who turned out to be not good enough and who we now can't get rid of. The guys from League One last time are still our mainstays!

This is true, but it's also worth noting that those mainstays were 'good' ages too (and not just Tyler or Cumming) - even the senior pros like Ciaron Brown (25) and Mark Harris (24) had their best years infront of them going into our promotion season. Brannagan was only 27.

So whilst your 'League One players' can undoubtedly grow into your Championship players, they probably need the headroom (age) to do so.
 
I would assume Kent is on a 2+1 contract, and if we go up this season and he is deemed not suitable for the championship, then I am sure he will have plenty of league one suitors wanting a player that helped a team win promotion the season prior, whether permanent or a loan I doubt we will have an albatross of a contract to deal with

The same one that said Donley had done his collarbone and would be out a while which turned out to be right.

Also told a really funny story about Dembele and his car running out of fuel at the training ground. Anyway, his car run out of fuel at the training ground. He got a lift to the petrol station and was perplexed what to do. Had to be baby stepped through filling a fuel can. On his way back to the training ground with a 5 litre can of fuel he said this isn’t enough to get me home I don’t think.
 
George Elek on The Dub questioning whether Frankie Kent will even be able to register for us, given the embargo 😬 Guess if not then we'll either have to keep him training with us until we can register him in January once the ban has been lifted, or send him out on loan until that point?
 
Be beneficial if each department started communicating instead of offering 3 yr deal to players that can't be registered .
Can we find some grown up's to run our football club please .

Would he not have registered pre embargo? Surely that has to be the cut off point.
