Think he will be a ball playing CB to play alongside Helik like you say, I can’t see brown being first choice under Ramsey.

We bring out our kits so late it’s a bit presumptuous to assume we won’t play on that one this season, bound tkk ok happen one year.
 
Can't get what there is positve in this signing. There's better much younger central defenders out there. If we'd signed the likes of Hayden Roberts, Eion Toal or Will Fish last january.
Both Roberts and Fish would of put us in a better position to cope with the injuries to Currie and Spencer, alongside the balls up with Leigh.
Which maybe would of put us in a better position on staying up.
But yet again we're happy to be closed minded and sign another ageing back up, who'll see his days out on a decent wedge.
 
Seems an OK signing to me. Great profile for a free transfer and we were looking thin in that area. Time will tell whether he threatens current starters but he’s no mug for this level. I think what we’re really missing is some running power back there. That may come yet via a loan or whatever, but this strikes me as a pretty decent pick-up.
 
When are we going to get loans in , obviously Arsenal players, Saka,Rice maybe ?

This signing is really bugging me.

I can't help thinking it will show if we actually know what we are doing or not. We are taking the opposite view to the data model that hearts have, driven by the Brighton owner tony bloom. That worries me.

Findlay wasn't good enough here but they want to keep him and give us a player their fans consider inferior.

Maybe this is all wrong and there are other reasons for this move but I think he will have very little space to get the fans onside and will have to hit the ground running.

Feels a weird signing to me, especially as someone who normally likes to look for the positives.

Could the difference re Findlay be about playing style. IIRC the problem with Findlay was that he couldn’t play the ball out which was the basis of our style. Maybe if Kent is good but doesn’t fit hearts style - whatever that is - it might all be rational?

Taking on Kent while Findlay goes the other way isn't indicative of anything. Findlay didn't suit the style of play we wanted at the time, and once we loaned him to a Scottish side the first time around it became very clear he didn't want to come back south of the board.

My understanding is that though they take up the same position on the pitch, the roles they play are quite different. Are people really thinking we've signed a CB just because they were available and we desperately needed to sign one, or could it possibly have been because the recruitment team saw something in his playing attributes that they though would suit the team they're trying to build here?

As for his age, not all signings need to be future prospects. Sometimes you also need to sign more experienced and mature players and individuals. Yes, we've got a few senior pros at the club now, but, just because our first signing is older, it doesn't mean that this is our "transfer model" going forward.

No, I didn't say anything about signing him just because he is available, I am questioning if my backing of our recruitment department has been a bit wrong given this evidence. Obviously way too early to say but I'm concerned that fans on the hearts forum say that Findlay is a better ball playing centre back than Kent.

No, I know you weren't suggesting that, but the way people go on about some of our signings (specially when on a free) is almost as if they think the recruitment team is just signing anyone and everyone that actually wants to come to us, as if we are desperate, rather then understanding that they do have a process in place for identifying targets. We all know not all transfers work out, but the guy's not even been in the building 24 hours and some people are making out as if we've signed a peg-legged 59 year old.

Surely the best evidence is seeing how he fits in to our team and playing style? Peterborough fans seemed miffed that he's joined another League One side, and on a free transfer it's not like this signing is making a massive dent into our playing budget. I see plenty of positives in this signing, but we can only really judge once he plays a few games for the club
 
Just checked over some data I’ve looked at.
Managed 787 minutes over 16 games in the league, so an average of 49 minutes over 16 games
Then 161 minutes over 4 games in the split.
Starter in 20% of games, roughly 8 games for Hearts over the 38 game season. So can’t be considered a regular on last season.
