The risk of Lampard is that he is the complete unknown. What kind of manager will he be?
To me, he’s always appeared cerebral and worthy of respect due to his ability. He has all the traits of someone who could and should make a good manager. Whether his long career of playing with some of the best in the world can translate to the lower leagues is another matter. Graham Rix is a prime example of a coach so versed in coaching top players that his ideas just went over the heads of lower league fodder like David Woozley and Leo Roget (and that he couldn’t manage in the first place and was a bit of a c**t). Does Lampard have the wherewithal to work with players with ability far below his own level?
Seemingly every fan on here wants the ‘experienced’ option, ie some other club to do the hard work of developing a manager before we nab them. I’m happy with a younger option as they can become a sellable asset like Appleton has been to us. MApp’s experience when coming to us was with basket case clubs that he’d barely had time to put a mark on. With almost unheard of patience, he developed so much as a manager in his first year with us that the second season felt a lot more settled. If Lampard was the choice, we’d have to allow him a few hall passes because he’d certainly make a few errors in his first 12 months with us.
