If you have superstitions linked to watching Oxford play, please add them to this thread. We're in a desperate situation, so I'd like ammunition to aid the team.

I currently only have one, which is to always enter the turnstile furthest to the left. I stood on the left side of the London Road and since we left for The Kassam, I do this for sentimental reasons and believe that if I don't, we have no chance of winning. For clarity, I am a functional adult human in a position of responsibility.

I have had many more short-lived superstitions in the past. The most short-lived was born into the world when we scored an equaliser at The New Den and I noticed that the packet of Fruit Polos I had been eating had a yellow Polo at the top of the tube. Next game, I ate the Polos down to the first yellow sweet and hoped that it would bring good luck. Amazingly, it didn't. Shocking, eh?

Only wearing away/3rd kit shirts while watching us play midweek fixtures online. Wearing a home kit in this situation is a no-go, as we always seem to lose when I do.

This season - not wearing the beautiful third shirt.
Worn it twice.
1st time Brighton in the cup.
2nd time, cant remember which game but didnt actually make it to the match.

This season - not wearing the home shirt.
Worn it once.
Pompey at home. Nuff said.

So its been the nasty black shirt all season.
And thats not been particularly lucky either. Might revert to the promotion shirt for the remainder of the season.

Play off final - realised I'd put my left sock on inside out - took it off, put it back on correctly - the rest is history...

...saying that, never repeated it since, as I feel deliberately folding a sock inside out just to put it right wouldn't count

I'm a bit long in the tooth for replica shirts but I do try to wear something yellow to home games; a fleece, a t-shirt, socks - that sort of thing. Also, I never enter the stadium thru turnstile 13.

West Brom game, I thought "Sod it" - dressed all in funereal black and purposely made my way in via Gate 13.

Trouble is, I now don't know if it was the black garb or the unlucky turnstile entry that changed our fortunes.....

You have *obviously* got to do both, or the juju won't work!

During our 23/24 promotion run I wore the exact same outfit (literally down to underwear & socks, up to jacket & hat) for every game from the last game of the season, through the playoff semi’s and final. I was boiling at Wembley! And then again for the Norwich game at the start of the following season.

I still pull out that pair of boxers for the occasional game where it feels like ‘we REALLY need a result here’. Admittedly their success rate since the Bolton game is pretty mixed! And they are starting to hang on a bit, quality-wise! If they didn’t have the nostalgia of the playoff run I suspect they’d have been binned by now 🤣🤣

(And to clarify, the outfit was washed after each wear! I’m not a minger…or that grostesque munster from Portsmouth with the bell!)

If I don't have an orgy the night before the game we always seem to struggle.

Been a lean couple of years for you then mate! Pull your finger out! 😉😉

I had a pair of lucky OUFC pants last year - they did a remarkable job, barley dropped a point when I wore them.

This year I've tried three or four different pairs, but none of them seem to hold the luck quite as well, including the originals.
My old man had a pair of yellow pants he wore at matches. When we were sorting through his stuff after he passed away, it took a long minute for me to decide whether or not to take those pants for myself and carry on the tradition. Eventually I decided against it. But it was a close call.

I don’t think I’ve got any football related habits or superstitions. Seems a bit odd to me.

Whenever I hear sweet Caroline, un prompted or not requested by me, we win. I always have a big grin if I hear it before a game.

Night before a game i slaughter a cow with an axe..

"How a cow gets an axe, I'll never know"

When entering the east stand turnstile
12-13
I will go through the same turnstile as the previous game if we won and change if we lose
As I do in turnstile 1 and 2, last time I went in 2 and we won, it’s the same Wednesday night.

On a day when Oxford are playing if I go for a run beforehand I feel like I'm doing my bit and the players will run a little bit farther in the match because of it.
I distinctly remember doing my bit to help us win promotion in 2010 by completing a couple of runs in the spring.

Separately, I had a shirt that I wore to the following games, and only the following games:

Oxford 3-2 Swansea
Oxford 3-0 Wycombe
Oxford 2-1 Swindon
Oxford 1-0 Peterborough
Oxford 1-1 Peterborough
Oxford 2-0 Bolton

I kept it last year in case we needed it for Swansea away. Then, deciding it was nearly ten years old, I retired it. Now look where we are.

More than that even, it adds another thing to potentially go wrong.

Which is why my superstition is to never have a superstition. When there are already so many moving parts, why would I want to risk adding another?
