Travel Football Special Bus (OX2/OX3/OX7)

If you can work out the quite fiddly route you could walk through Littlemore and get the 3 bus from Rose Hill parade, you shouldn’t get caught up in traffic. You’ll have to walk to the station from the Westgate though.
Is that the same as the 3A, or a different route entirely?

I usually drive to the Kassam, but will instead need to get a bus to Oxford Train Station after the Burnely game on Saturday 28th September.

Therefore not a Football Special enquiry particularly, but can anyone recommend what would be the best bus for me to get?

From the website it looks like my best options are either to get the City5/Stagecoach 1 bus from Blackbird Leys to the train station, or else get the 3A and then get off at the Westgate.

I'll be in a bit of a rush so not sure which would be quickest. Is anyone able to advise on either (and whether they get completely rammed at full-time - particularly this season so far!)?

Any help much appreciated.
I used to live in London and always needed to get back to the station quite sharpish, and my best advice is that you can't rely on the 1 or 5 buses to get you back on time if you are in a rush but want to stay for the full game, especially now the crowds are on the up.

As they're local buses and not football specific, you're at the mercy of Oxford traffic and having no idea when one is going to turn up. Also, the time it takes to travel down the Cowley Road into the City makes it feel like you're travelling to Mordor.

I would quite often get to the bus stop, wait ages for a bus before one would turn up followed by another a few moments later. It was then infuriating to have to wait for that bus I was on to fill up, when it could have just left to regulate the service and allowed the second bus to take on more of the passengers. So even when you get on one, it can take an absolute age to leave.

In the end I switched to taxis as I was missing too many trains - 001 taxis have a really good app and I used to pre-order one from Littlemore for 5pm to avoid the stadium traffic. Would always get me there in good time and only cost £10/£11. Obviously that's a bit of a luxury, but it was the only way I could guarantee getting to the station on Time without leaving early.

While this thread is bumped, can I ask the @OUSP whether there is a plan for a second OX7 yet? It was bad last season, but it's even worse now. Last season the big problem was the influx of extra people wanting to come back on the OX7 (but not come go up on it). So it would be full, but bearable, on the way there, and then often standing room only if you were lucky on the way back.

This season people are essentially being turned away on the way back as it's already rammed.

This was made even worse on Saturday as we had a new type of bus, one that had tables on the top deck taking up much of the space usually used for seats. As a result we had people standing on the way there and back.

With almost guaranteed sell outs for every home game, this isn't going to get any better, so they need to put another bus on urgently.

OK, great. Thank you!

This is exactly my experience. It's the worst thing about going to home games and that says a lot considering the state of the stadium and lack of pubs. You can get back to the station in around half an hour or it can take over an hour. And there's no way to cheat the system, it's a complete lottery.

I usually catch the 3a to The George (or catch the 3 and walk from Rose Hill if I've just missed one), then catch the 5 or 1 back to town. It's even worse now I'm travelling with a 5 year old - last time I was sat on the bus afterwards for 25 minutes with him saying "why aren't we leaving" every 30 seconds, while more than one bus pulled up behind us and then left straight away!

OK, great. Thank you!
No problem, one of the most painful journeys you can try to make and just not worth the stress.

And to waffle on even more, I once left a 3pm Saturday game in the 85th minute as I  really needed to get back on time, yet a bus didn't arrive for 20 minutes by which time the game had finished and hordes of fans had already joined me in the queue. Obviously, the second bus turned up whilst I was already on the first and then left straight away. I ended up running the last mile to the station as I knew I'd be quicker and made the train by about 20 seconds. That was the point at which I said never again...

That’s quite a walk from the stadium.

001 are absolutely brilliant

They have electric bikes and scooters you can use to get from the station to Knights Road then it's a 5 minute walk from there. Faster than the bus.

The OX3 buses arrived 20 + mins late on Saturday
Get that sorted first and timings would not be an issue

I would love to get the bus in but as I am the last stop in North Abingdon I would be worring so much that the bus will be full and not let me on.

Can anyone confirm if the bus is ever full?
