Just thought I’d note down the injury list as it seems a full club update will be reported to us by the end of this weekend.

Has there been an indication what the injury was? A guess would be knee based on the lack of impact and the way he collapsed to the floor. Hoping, for Nelson, he hasn’t ruptured his ACL.

Ah that’s a big shame! He was superb and will hopefully go on to have a great career.

Not having much luck with our summer signings are we?! Basically the same squad we came up with now.

I'd expect to see Currie back in, and another CB in on loan with Thorniley not included in the 25-man squad post-January.

Any other squad changes would depend on further outgoings - or more long-term injuries, God forbid!

Looking at the squad list for possible 'weak links', the only ones who I'd consider to be potential departures would be Edwards, Dale and Ebiowei.

Outside of those three, the main issue is getting players fit - the squad list looks very, very good until you count that that eight of them are on the sidelines.

But the other thing the squad list shows is how far we've come in 18-24 months in terms of re-building the squad. Aside from the injuries (I know, I know...!) it's a very well balanced and very competitive squad, and I'd be surprised if we see more than three come in in January.

I would go for the following in Jan.
Players to move on (if possible) to free up squad places:
Eastwood
Thornily
Nelson (if injured)
Owen Dale
Ebiowei (Return)
Edwards (another Marcus Browne unfortunately)
Goodwin (loan out)

We need to be ruthless to get a full squad.
We do need to be ruthless, but we also need to be realistic.

I agree with your 'out' list, *if* upgrades are available.

Eastwood isn't taking up a squad place, so his future would be in his hands for me. If he wants to stay and develop his coaching, great. If he wants to try and find another club, he'd be welcome to do that too.

Nelson will depend on his injury, and how that's looking closer to the window. If he's out for two months, he could be coming back by the end of January, but if it's four months...

Ebiowei is a bit of a balancing act. Having spent four months working with him, do you then try and get someone in to replace him with no guarantee that they too won't require the same? Des will know if he's up to it, and if we keep him then we need to back him.

Edwards hasn't done enough for me to earn an extension, unfortunately. Great on his day, but they have been too few and far between - particularly in a squad already carrying a few players who are injury prone (and who are on longer contracts).

Goodwin is a funny one. If we can get in someone who would be challenging straight away for a starting place, then I'd agree. However, if you can't get someone of that calibre to replace him, then I'd rather keep him and continue his development here, than bring in someone else to play the same minutes he is.

We'll see, but 68 minutes total in 15 games despite an injury crisis at his position would suggest that Des doesn't have the utmost confidence in him!

Also would rather depend on Palace's views on the lad as well. If they still have hope for him to become a player, they're not going to want to leave him at a club where he's not getting minutes. Better to find somewhere else for him, even if it's one tier lower, where he's going to get some playing time.

If he doesn't get any starts until January, but they still leave him with us.....well that rather implies that they've given up on him, and are just happy for someone else to pay some of his wages!

If Edwards can proove his fitness before the New Year I would keep him.
Agreed.

If we think we could get 8 games out of him post January then I’d keep him. A nicked win here or there down to some individual brilliance could make the difference between staying up or going down.

I’m perhaps being unduly influenced from the 2nd half at Luton where in Dembele and him we had 2 out and out threats from wide. Threats on both wings made a real difference, I also thought he linked up really well with PK.

I know it’s a lot of money to most of us but if he’d take a £2k ish a week deal and is fit in January then I’d try and do a deal.
