World Cup FIFA World Cup plans

Thing with Al Khelafi is that he already has so much money that the backhanders he might make from selling football down the river wouldn’t actually move the needle that much for him.

It’s a strange day when appointing a Qatari media mogul looks like it might make things less corrupt……but that’s where we are. Cheers Gianni!
Al Khelafi was the linchpin behind Qatar 2022 happening. Got well involved in French politics too, wooing Sarkozy and in turn Platini who of course lent his vote to Qatar.

People always say that, but too much never seems to be enough for these rich folks.

I mean, I know it’s not properly comparable, but how many Americans have said the same about Trump who has since embarked on the biggest kleptocracy since Ptolemy.

AFC has 47 members
UEFA has 55 members
CONCACAF has 41 members

Total 143

FIFA need a majority of the 211 members to back the plan. Presumably it it now a dead duck.

BBC News - AFC joins Uefa and Concacaf in opposing Fifa plan

That's great news. Pretty much puts Infantino's plans to the sword you'd think

It would be better if Infantino fell on his.

I know his remit was to boots FIFA’s coffers and he’s fulfilled that brief from them making huge amounts rather than losing money in three years out of every four, but he’s a greed merchant leaching off something emotive and meaningful for millions.

Get him gone first and then see if FIFA can be trusted again. I doubt they will.

I’m glad UEFA finally found their cajones though.

Infantino’s audacity was almost impressive! Didn’t even try to disguise the bribe. Vote in favor of this by the middle of September and we’ll send your FA $20m!

I wonder if he genuinely thought that UEFA wouldn’t have the balls for a boycott?Thankfully he was wrong…….

I hope he backs down quick though, otherwise the Women’s World Cup could be ****ed. Next round of qualifiers are October 9th
Infantino is making Sepp Blatter look good!
The FIFA high table should all be subject to a financial forensic investigation.
Bribes, dodgy money, kick backs should result in sackings.

FIFA is supposed to be a non-profit organisation. I know that can hide a multitude of sins (with inflated wages for officials probably being the least of it): maybe it is time UEFA and the other five continental confederations just set up an alternative from scratch and let FIFA wither on the vine completely. Start afresh, with proper safeguards and accountability.

So, right now it looks like UEFA, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL and AFC have threatened to boycott. Just CAF and OFC to play there cards. So, who's looking forward to Vanuatu v Burkina Faso?

The thing is we all know it will come back in another form.

Drop the hand grenade, see the reaction, readjust who you guide in your direction for support and try again.

Infantino will go quiet while doing the politics and will be promising a sufficient number of countries the moon on a plate to retain his position

Not really its was exactly who Infantino was targeting smaller footballing nations with the lure of big money

£40m? Take the bribe eh?

The tournament cleared almost £9 billion this year, so if Infantino wanted to distribute funds to more developing football nations, he could.

What he is really thinking about is his performance bonus. £6 mil in remuneration last year..... wonder what 2026 will yield for him.

Neoliberalism in a nutshell. UEFA on FIFA's proposal: “The moment external investors acquire ownership interests ... football changes forever. Commercial return becomes a permanent obligation. ... Every decision is no longer driven by what best serves the game, but by what best serves shareholders.”

Gary Lineker prophetically said in 2016: Infantino's mask is going to slip, and when it does we'll see Sepp Blatter's face (or something along those lines).
