There'll always be a demand for the rough stuff, look at how the attendances for lower league and non league have risen over the last decade or so. People are fed up with the fancy pancy crap and want to see some proper old school footie

Should imagine Infantino expected this, he will have a few tricks up his sleeve yet, interesting to see what happens now.

Ages till the next World Cup, although the women’s version and club World Cup are nearer but they don’t have the same level of publicity, can see a shady backroom deal allowing the European women’s teams to play but both UEFA and Infantino get paid.

As someone said on the SMT thread , they’ll just present it again with more money to countries higher in the rankings (plus some sort of adjustment for Italy).

Although why Thohir is bothered about USD 20m going to the Indonesia FA, when he’s “invested “ more than that in “our” club.

1. granted, he's bought a simple majority.

2. How long for? I presume UEFA pretends some democratic process thus why won't the smaller nations vote to take the cash? Can UEFA counter that threat? Belarus, Moldavia, Nor'n Ire, Faroe Islands, North Macedonia, San Marino etc will want to get their snouts in the trough.
Will UEFA's response be a breakaway Super League of oh Spain, France Germany, Italy and England?

"We unanimously and unequivocally reject Fifa's proposal to transfer ownership interests in the World Cup and other Fifa competitions to private investors," it said.

As I said - I presume the regions affect a democratic process within the region. They have organised their own tournaments when permitted.

I mean, UEFA could find themselves expelling all the small, insignificant countries and forming a Super League with sponsorship from Saudi Arabia or Meta, Elon Musk or Palantir - all major players in the making. UEFA is shitting bricks because the Infantino is prizing their hands of the coffers, that's all.

Has Infantino gone to far? Without Europe and North America he looks on shaky ground, but you can’t see him going without a fight, double the bribe maybe?

I should imagine he has absolutely made a fortune from his time as head of FIFA, be money in dodgy accounts around the world, so at least he will be able to sit back and meditate comfortably in his retirement if it does happen.

Thing with Al Khelafi is that he already has so much money that the backhanders he might make from selling football down the river wouldn’t actually move the needle that much for him.
