EPL FFP (Financial Fair Play)

Taken me a while to work this one out.
24 April 2023 Leicester extend their financial year-end to finish on 30 June 2023 from 31 May 2023.
At this point Leicester are 17th and one place above the relegation zone.
end of season they are relegated in 18th.
At the Premier League AGM on 14 June 2023 all of the relegated clubs transfer their membership back to the EPL.

So I guess Leicester's case is that they weren't EPL members at the end of their financial period to Jun 2023.

But although they were relegated, other clubs could argue that Leicester took points off them / they had an unfair advantage.

Will be interesting to see how we comply with the Championship rules whatever they are? We seem to be spending a lot on wages and transfer fees, so will the increased TV etc revenues cover us?

good questions - especially given what happened due to failing to pay loan fees on time. OUFC finance dept need to make sure everything is as it should be, then double and triple check

Think it is max losses of £39million in any 3 year period.

Transfer fees are split over the number of years a player signs a contract. For example we pay a million pounds for Dembele on a 4 year contract. That transfer fee is then 250k a season on the balance sheet.

It is the reason why Chelsea are giving their players 7-8 year contracts as they have found a loop hole in the system.

We have spent circa 2.5 million on transfer fees this summer, over 3 years (worst case), on a balance sheet, we have spent £833k this season so far on fees while getting an extra 10million in income.

That loophole has been closed, only allowed up to 5 years now iirc.

Serial cheats Leicester City can`t be disciplined by the EPL as their offences "took place" while they were members of the EFL.

A little creative accounting and they swerve any punishment.

Will the loophole be closed? Doubt it.

Will the EFL hold any retrospective punishment for them? Doubt it.

Will Man City et al ever be charged? Doubt it.

Games gone.

Leicester found a loop hole when they don’t have the same amount of money as City do to pay for legal help.
City will be paying top top money to get them out of their mess and I suspect they will get away with it too.

Like you say, the game is gone.

The hearing to begin on Monday but don't expect a swift judgement
And probably then the several appeals from City’s huge legal team and subsequent diminished verdicts till it amounts to nowt.

I think it’s the whole world of football that wants to see them get punished for cheating the season, not just ā€˜premier league rivals’.
Ah, but all Pep and Co care about is the Premier League, as was shown during that farce of a tuppence handout from the top flight to the lower leagues to keep teams financially secure during the pandemic. As if City would not have been able to make a payment to support the entirety of Conference N/S through League One, let alone with the other 19 teams in the top flight. Abysmal.

Chelsea will run out of properties and other assets to sell to their parent company soon.
I think there is also a separate "fair value" investigation underway as £75million for 2 hotels was thought excessive.

edit: hotels were a Copthorne Tara, and a Millennium - neither actually at Stamford Bridge, but somehow owned by club.
In addition to the EPL investigation, UEFA apparently don't allow sales of assets to other group companies to be allowed as "income" for P&L purposes, so might be an issue if they qualify for Champions League next season.

Didn't they already raise the ticket prices just over a month ago, to £60 for the cheapest seats, and no concession/child/elderly discount?

Were I an authentic Manc*, I would genuinely consider sacking off my club and turning to their FC United "phoenix club".

*Not that they have many of those in attendance anyway...

You could go and watch Karl at Salford! Or Stockport isn’t far.

The FSA have been posting re the pricing for away fans in their FA Cup tie.

"Manchester United have been criticised for the pricing of their fourth round FA Cup tie against Leicester City, which visiting fans have labelled ā€œunacceptableā€.

Leicester City will travel to Old Trafford for a Friday night kick-off on 7th February and the cheapest adult ticket for the fixture is £51. Other seats in the away end at full adult prices are priced at £52 and £61.

The cheapest senior ticket for that away end is Ā£40.75 and for under-18s it’s Ā£30.50."
