Fanzines

Anyone else miss the fanzines?

I used to really enjoy buying fanzines, ours and also many from other clubs that used to be a great read and a real good idea of how fans from various clubs felt about the game!
yep .... most if not all have been killed off by the internet, blogs n the like

Always bought Raging Bull when it came out, was a great read and a shame it (after it changed to Rage On) came to an end.

Yes, really miss Rage On and it’s predecessor. Have all the back issues somewhere in the loft.

Remember buying the first one , waiting outside the London rd before the gates opened...might have even been from Martin Brodetsky !

Yeah MB was usually there selling them. I had a couple of things published in there, can remember doing a pic of the half built KasStad and turning into a donkey Kong level which went on one of the covers.

Yes miss Raging Bull.
Always a good read.
Didnt Paul Beasley write regularly as thin man in raging bull?

Yes I miss the fanzines . Back in the day I remember being able to phone into radox and listen to the commentary have to admit the internet is a bit of an improvement!

Does any club still a good old fashioned fanzine or did they all die off?

Shame that, most of the good old football magazines also disappeared too.

agreed .... my day job is generally for (old fashioned) printed monthly magazines, although there is an online webzine , for the time being, specialist subject (ooh eer) magazines are surviving well.... in ten years time that might change of course ( ill be long retired by then), core readers tend to be in the main over 30 years old, which generally equates to a preference for a publication that you can hold, keep and even collect - which 'online' equivilants tend not to allow

I have a monthly subscription for a magazine called 'Edge', have done for 20 years or so now. I don't know anyone else who still does that, why wait a month when you can get everything instantly with a click? Much prefer paper to a screen (he typed into his phone... ?)

Who has ever stumbled across a box of websites in their loft and spent an afternoon going back in time? No one.

May I?

Well, f**k, almost nothing on a website has the detail and depth that paper 'journalism' has.

Back when I used to work I I used to spend afternoons in the weedy depths - one time I googled "Terry Scott Transporter Bridge" and ended up in a rapist (Middlesbrough FC) forum thread about the old days - fascinating. So I have one vote for doing that.

I remember once being at Abingdon Town v Aveley and an Aveley supporter turned up with a bunch of their fanzines, IIRC they were called "There's Only One Reggie Harris", whoever that was, but what sticks in my mind was the price was -1p as he gave them away and they had a 1p sellotaped to the cover of each!! I thought that was great!

I used to work in a newsagents and Martin Brodetsky walked in. I didn't know him but he had some U's badges on, so got chatting. Couldn't stop him :), a big queue of customers soon formed.

I remember sitting on the bus back reading Raging Bull, a great read.
