Fan's View FAN’S VIEW 2025/26 – COVENTRY AWAY

Thanks Paul, another excellent account. Spot on about the need for some attacking prowess tomorrow. Our backs to the wall defending was magnificent. But little evidence of where goals are going to come from.

Pre-match as we were traveling from London we got a taxi straight to Dhillon's brewery on an industrial estate by the ground. It's a really good set up with several bars and covered seating areas and a decent coal barbecue with burgers, sausages, pulled pork etc with roast new potatoes. A bit like the old Priory set-up when they had the marquee. Sadly the beer wasn't up to scratch and their own brews were keg only and pretty insipid. Though it was 99% Coventry fans there, it was all friendly. Lots of music, lots of tvs showing the football and later the rugby.

They advertised "real ales" at the main bar but there weren't any - we think maybe they can't handle the volume on match days so stick to keg. Others had got the train to Leamington for a beer, and from there you can get the train direct to the stadium and as you are on the train before Coventry main station it means you have more chance of a seat / getting on.

After the game, our advance train back to London was cancelled, so we went back to Dhilllons before getting the 6:50 pm train back to Coventry station. Not sure when this happened, but they have built a whole new concourse and entrance area 100 yards down the road from the existing station, with a multistory car park, hotel and other development.

More importantly, there is a new "social food" hub called Elles just by the new entrance. which apparently only opened at the end of January. There are several independent kitchens along with upstairs and downstairs bars and a communal dining area with lots of tables. Order via QR code and get served to your seat. So unlike the old days of there being no pubs by the station, this was two minutes walk. Large range of drinks but not an ale in sight. Anyway, better than nothing. It was busy for a Saturday night with lots of clubby music, and people enjoying cocktails etc

As for the match, I thought the ref had decided from the start that we were a dirty side and deserved all of the bookings he handed out. You then see a Coventry player do exactly the same thing as we get booked for, with no card ...

We picked up a point, but really need to start closing that gap quickly. Our relegation rivals seem to mostly have poor recent form, however Norwich have won four of the last six.
