Fan's View FAN’S VIEW: 2025/26 – BRISTOL CITY AWAY

Mrs L commented on your experience with the stewards. As she observed, some grounds have helpful, friendly types, others are just plain belligerent. Birmingham St.Andrews springs to mind from recent experience. Why this is the case, who knows, training, character or just poor recruitment or, as I suggested, perhaps just desperate recruitment as no-one else would take the job.
Certainly pleasing to hear that you got your phone back. Two fold good news, one, you got your phone, second, that it was handed in.

Good write up as usual Paul.

I agree with your son re; Placheta, just feel he has all the attributes, but that final ball is lacking most of the time. There was an opportunity in the first half where Lankshear was free in the middle, but Placheta didn’t even look up. I just feel Mills delivers a much better cross, plus he does it early which helps the striker e.g. he knows he’s going to do it early so can make the necessary runs/movement, whereas, with Placheta they never know what’s going to happen!! and at times I’m not sure even he knows. I’d also question his defensive side of play e.g. their goal, just made no attempt to make it difficult for their player, thus him having a clear shot at goal. Plus there were many ocassions in the first half where we were exposed down our right and this was because Placheta didn’t track back to support Spencer. On another day it could have led to one or two goals by the opposition and the whole story looks completely different. I feel Mills lacks in this area (defensive duties), but what is unquestionable about Placheta which makes me think he edges it over Mills is, his pace. It’s a great outlet, especially when you’re under the cosh!

I’d prefer to start Mills, but bring Placheta on, especially with that pace and when players may be tiring. Oh, and I’d stop him from keep thinking he’s going to score that goal where he cuts inside and 9 times out of 10 blasts it over the bar/and higher and concentrate on his delivery into the box e.g. looking up and actually trying to find our players rather than a hopeless cross/pull back!!

Just on the stewards, it was also a very relaxed and friendly bag search. Quick glance, a smile and a comment of "plenty of food".

The unallocated seating policy makes so much difference. I can't remember which ground it was last season where we tried to go into the end section (obviously the quietest) but were forced to go in the centre one where our tickets were. It was completely packed with standing on the steps, so we went back to the other section, explained to the steward and he still wouldn't let us in. We ended up going in the packed section and walking along an entire row, squeezing past people until we got to the quieter section we'd originally tried to go in!

Really pleased you got your phone back Paul!
Placheta was generally brilliant but it was him who could (should?) have closed down Mehmeti for their goal.
Fantastic away day though - one of the best I can recall.

Having watched all the goals (several times) I think that's a bit unfair on Placheta. You have to credit Mehmeti's movement, in which he wrongfooted Shemmy with a shimmy to make space for the shot. If you watch it again, it was the first player he drifted past (Spencer?) who should have closed him down first

I made the same comment re; Placheta as Victor and still think that Placheta gave up too easily.

It was Prelec that went with the runner on their left (Spencer was marking in the middle), with it being Placheta having to pick up Mehmeti, snd you can visibly see him give up the chase, thus making it easier for Mehmeti to get a better shot on target as he was unchallenged
