Ex Player Ex-Player Thread

You always think that these guys have it all and it’s great life being a footballer. Obviously not for some of them.
Too many people don’t believe they’re allowed to behave or think like normal humans because they get paid to kick a ball. It’s completely absurd. How does them kicking a ball around mean they don’t have relationship problems? Family illnesses? How does their occupation protect them from a life of being abused to horrendous levels by people that not only go unpunished but are unchallenged, because it’s been normalised? Even if they’re lucky enough to earn really good money in the upper leagues, does that mean nothing bad happens to them or their loved ones, and they therefore can’t feel anything? What about when they retire and there aren’t enough jobs to go around in the game, and they get dumped on their a**e overnight and are left to find their way in a world they were purposefully kept away from their entire adult life?

There are a lot of reasons why footballers are allowed to be human. The problem is that too many jealous individuals who begrudge them ‘living the dream’ think they’re allowed to behave however they like towards them, and that if a player ever feels the slightest twinge of emotion they’re somehow ungrateful scumbags.

We’ve got a lot of work to do, and we’re already a long way behind where we need to be.

There’s plenty of people in the world and throughout history who would say to someone in this country ‘how can you be depressed? You have a roof over your head, food, warmth, running clean water, freedom, you aren’t being persecuted or murdered, what’s wrong with you?!’ The fact is mental heath problems can affect anyone, it’s an illness.

An example of people’s perception of footballers and think they shouldn’t have a normal life is the reaction Peterborough’s Maddison got for going out and getting drunk after scoring a couple of goals against Sunderland! Why shouldn’t a young lad go out on the P**s with his mates after a game?

A tad like peoples perception of football fans, why shouldn't a person be allowed to go to football with his mates or otherwise without being herded around like sheep and/or cameras filming your every movement.
