He was pretty average for us- on loan from Barnsley?
Has done really well at WBA

Robbie Mustoe was the player who had a teriffic career and I would never have thought that he wouid at Oxford.

Any others?

Mark Stein perhaps? Fairly modest for us but played in the PL with Chelsea for a few seasons after his time at Stoke.

They probably don’t count since their appearances for us were very early in their careers but I don’t think any of us would have predicted the future success of both Ashley Barnes and Jordan Rhodes when they joined us.

Perhaps Sam Ricketts too? Bombed out of Oxford and had to climb the leagues before an international career and long spell in the top flight that followed.

Wes Burns has done a lot better than I expected him to.

Mustoe was in that era when the ‘water carrier’ footballer was a must have for a lot of teams. That sort of get the ball back and give it to someone more dynamic - he was very good at it and was probably a mangers dream in terms of his personality and character too. The game has moved on a bit though and that type of ball winner now probably has to have a bit more in his armoury, like a Declan Rice for example.

Dan Crowley having a good start to the season at Notts County.

Dan Crowley was never about ability from my limited knowledge but about his attitude. So I can only assume it dawned on him at some point and he sorted his attitude out.

I think Ricketts is the correct answer, I thought he would be playing out his days at Oxford City and Kidlington when he left us, he was a player nobody was sad to see released.

Rhodes I think it was clear he was levels above in his positioning and awareness. I wasn’t surprised with his career at all. Barnes certainly made the most of his talent.

Mattie Taylor mark1 - played a handful of games as a teenager when we were in the Conference then went on via the lower leagues all the way to the Championship for a few seasons with Bristol City then back to L1.

And of course the ultimate
Emi Martinez - shipped three goals vs Port Vale, then went on to win the World Cup and Copa America.
