Ex-Player Thread Ex-Player Thread

That article probably sums up Burgess. He thought he was someone special but went missing when things got tough. Jim’s career as a manager speaks for itself. Burgess though never played higher than league 2.
I met Jim Smith a few times over the years. Very nice man. I met him at a corporate 'do' around that time. He said of Burgess 'Championship ability, Sunday League effort'. Said Burgess and Rob Duffy were both extremely lazy in training. Thought Burgess was talented but he (Jim) said he just couldn't make him understand he had to put the work in.

Reuben has basically had 18 months away from first team football.

If it was a player that none of us had ever heard of, there’d not be anyone advocating him coming back.

One to confine to the memory bank for me. Good servant and will go down in history as a Wembley hero, but wouldn’t see him coming back as progress, now.
I did consider putting a "if he's not gone to fat in Brazil" clause into my original post. No idea what condition he's in, but if he's match fit, would still have him back. I think a lot of our fans had the attitude with Ruben, and other players, that as we'd stayed up one season in the Championship we would be taking big steps to the next level with the quality of players coming in. Sometimes you can throw the baby out with the bath water, and I think that's what we did with Ruben when we let him go. I always remember the way Wilder dismantled his Conference promotion team too in a similar vein. I think he himself admitted that was a mistake a few years later.

Aware that I'll get the 'rose tinted glasses' accusation thrown at me, but I can assure you that I am consistent, he was my favourite player when he was here before and I was disappointed to see him go!

He's actually only had 8 months away from first team football, because he was playing for us in May 2025.

However, either way would not make an impact if he signed now. Also agree with others, he's slightly too slow, which is a shame as skills wise he was up to it. I fear Romeny has the same issue.

It's a case of thanks for the memories but we move on.

In my opinion he was always too slow on the ball for the championship and so got caught in possession way too often which for 'teams like Oxford' is really dangerous. See krastev now.

Talented but not decisive enough for anything above league 1.
Yeah. I'm not advocating his return, particularly because of the number of midfielders we already have (despite Tyler and Donely's injuries). As much as we're enjoying MPH out wide, he could also play more centrally, and BDK could also be moved further forward.

That isn't a position I'm worried about. Would far rather focus on a CB.

The player we should have never let go is, and always will be, Jack Midson.

Will definitely be listening/watching Dan

Here's a little preview ... just to whet your appetite

Spotted Alex MacDonald at the Sheff United game last night (as did a couple other fans, so it wasn’t my eyes playing tricks on me)! He’s an agent now a days apparently

Clearly not a Secret Agent

That has the makings of a thread running to two pages in the summer as we await news of a signing.

Not the worst accent by any means but Tyler Goodhram's voice could easily get him childrens' rates on tickets and entry to things.

Goodrham looks young enough to get them as well, could play in our under 17 team without anyone raising an eyebrow.
